JOB SUMMARY 

The Medical Assistant Gainesville Imaging role is responsible for providing clinical, technical and clerical operations support dedicated to meeting the needs of customers and departmental operations.

Competencies

  • Explains the procedure and post-procedure orders to the patient to gain cooperation and minimize anxiety.
  • Prepare patients for exams, verifying patient history, checking for allergies/contraindications and assessing vitals.
  • Perform venipuncture and point of care testing
  • Assist in procedures.
  • Screen patients for imaging studies
  • Prioritizes workflow in regard to patient condition and ensures patients' arrival and departure occur in a timely manner.
  • Provides an atmosphere conducive to gain the patient's cooperation and confidence.
  • Utilizes data received from patient satisfaction and practice performance results to identify opportunities to improve and participates in the planning and improvement process.
  • Ability to lift, move and position patients under the guidance of a Registered Technologist or Radiologist
  • Cleans examination surfaces between patients.
  • Provides clean linen including sheets, gowns, pillowcases, and towels.
  • Immediately cleans spills following universal precautions.
  • Properly stores accessory equipment when not in use.
  • Shares and initiates regular and professional communication with co-workers.
  • Facilitates and participates in regular staff meetings.
  • Maintains sterile equipment and fields. 
  • IV and venipuncture

  • Triage phone calls

The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School Diploma or GED required

Experience: Experience in healthcare environment preferred. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details.

Licensure: Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), RMA (Registered Medical Assistant) credentials or completion of an approved medical assistant program required.

  • Must obtain certification within 6 months of date of hire through a recognized national professional association such as: 
    • AAMA (American Association of Medical Assistants) 
    • AMT (American Medical Technologists) 
    • ARMA (American Registry of Medical Assistants) 
    • NAHP (The National Association of Healthcare Professions) 
    • NHA (National Healthcare Association)
    • OR EMT-B (or higher) 
    • OR State Certification from Virginia Board of Nursing (Certified Nursing Assistant) 

Additional Skills/Requirements Required: Demonstrates proficiency in verbal and written communications. Ability to work in a stressful environment. Interpersonal skills necessary to provide effective communications and to maintain a wide variety of internal and external cooperative working relationships with physicians, patients, staff, and other employees.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Physical Demand Code: Medium to Heavy Physical Demand: The job requires constant standing, frequently walking, and bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull 100 lbs. For any weight over 35 lbs., use Safe Handling Equipment. The base compensation range for this role is  $17.68 - $27.28 hourly.

Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.  Please note that the pay range does not include any applicable incentive compensation programs such as shift differentials, clinical ladders, and other incentives that may be available for those in eligible positions.
