Floater Legal Assistant
Location: Irvine, CA
Schedule: Hybrid (3 days onsite) | Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM-5:00 PM | 37.5-hour work week
Compensation: $85,000-$97,000 annually

Position Overview
A nationally recognized Am Law firm is seeking a Floater Legal Assistant to provide administrative and legal support across multiple practice groups on an as-needed basis. This role serves as a flexible resource during attorney absences, staffing transitions, peak workload periods, trial preparation, and special projects. The ideal candidate is adaptable, highly organized, and able to shift priorities quickly while maintaining exceptional client service and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare, proofread, revise, and format legal documents, pleadings, agreements, correspondence, and other materials.
  • Assist with court filings, calendaring, scheduling, travel arrangements, and expense reporting.
  • Maintain electronic and physical files using document management systems.
  • Support document review, factual research, exhibit organization, transaction binders, and trial preparation.
  • Work with attorneys and staff across multiple practice areas, adapting to varying workflows and preferences.
  • Communicate professionally with attorneys, clients, court personnel, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
Qualifications
  • Prior law firm experience supporting attorneys in multiple practice areas strongly preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with document management systems such as iManage required.
  • Familiarity with electronic filing platforms, including PACER and state court e-filing systems required.
  • Experience with legal research platforms such as LexisNexis or Westlaw is preferred.
  • Must meet California paralegal requirements through a qualifying certificate, degree, or equivalent law-related experience.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and adapt to changing business needs.
