Job description

US Heart and Vascular is in need of a Medical Assistant to join our team at Memorial Katy Cardiology in Houston, TX.

Responsibilities:

  • Review charts and the daily schedule the day before. · Populate health/surgical history, etc.
  • Verifies and inputs patient medications into EMR. Making changes and additions as needed to the medication list.
  • Check if EKGs are needed
  • Schedule testing appointments and explain the scheduled testing to the patient · Scan and fax necessary documents
  • Check voicemail (individual assigned each day) and call patients back within 48 hours
  • Check eScribe box daily and refill prescriptions (MA assigned to a provider)
  • Use Telephone Encounters on eClinical Works.
  • Holter monitor hook-ups and removals, event recorders and Loop recorders. (Proficiency Required)
  • Perform stress tests as needed and assist in test interpretation. Assist physicians with patient exams as needed.
  • Receive and return phone calls from patients and other external sources. Receives and returns portal messages in the EMR.
  • Room patients in a timely manner
  • Responsible for performing EKG, rhythm strip, and signal average EKG hook-ups and printouts (proficiency required).
  • Add EKG order with diagnosis code to progress note.
  • Takes vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, weight, etc.)
  • Clean rooms and restock at the end of the day
  • Monitor pharmacy samples, removing them from stock as expired.
  • Handle pharmacy calls and enter diagnosis codes
  • Access Cover My Meds
  • May also be responsible for insurance precertification, prior authorization, procedure/surgery scheduling and coordinating transfers and admissions.
  • Additional duties as assigned based on practice needs

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or Texas accredited GED
  • 1 year of Medical Assistant experience, or recent graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant training program with completion of program externship.
  • Current CPR and Medical Assistant certification or obtain within 90 days of hire date.
  • Current BCLS certification.
  • Must have experience in administration of EKGs.
  • Cardiology practice experience preferred but not required.
  • Fluently speaks, reads, and writes English.
  • Move locations as needed
