What is a media paralegal?

Media paralegals are legal professionals who assist attorneys and law firms specializing in media and entertainment law. Their work typically involves drafting and reviewing contracts, managing intellectual property rights, conducting legal research, and helping with compliance issues related to the media industry. Media paralegals may support cases involving copyright, trademark, defamation, and licensing agreements for television, film, publishing, and digital media. They play a crucial role in ensuring that media organizations operate within the boundaries of the law.

How does a media paralegal typically collaborate with legal and creative teams in a media organization?

A Media Paralegal frequently acts as a bridge between the legal department and creative teams, ensuring that content complies with copyright, trademark, and licensing regulations. They review scripts, promotional materials, and contracts, working closely with attorneys to flag potential legal issues and with production teams to communicate necessary changes. This collaboration requires strong communication skills and an understanding of both legal requirements and the creative process, making adaptability and attention to detail essential. Media Paralegals often participate in meetings, coordinate approvals, and help streamline workflows to meet tight production deadlines.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a media paralegal, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Media Paralegal, you need a solid understanding of intellectual property law, contract review, and legal research, often supported by a paralegal certificate or relevant degree. Familiarity with legal databases (like LexisNexis or Westlaw), document management systems, and copyright registration platforms is typically required. Strong attention to detail, effective communication, and the ability to handle sensitive information confidentially are crucial soft skills in this role. These competencies ensure accuracy, legal compliance, and support for media organizations navigating complex legal issues.

Job description

If you’re an experienced Litigation Paralegal who wants to work somewhere that actually feels like a good place to work, this one is worth a look. Law Firm is located in downtown Tampa. This is an in office position. Please note that the firm pays 100% for health insurance and parking in addition to other benefits.

This is a 10-attorney law firm that has been together for decades. The attorneys are genuinely nice, approachable people who value the staff they work with and they understand that a good Paralegal Assistant is an important part of the team.

And perhaps most importantly: you won’t be buried under an unrealistic file count.

This is a general liability defense practice, so you’ll be supporting attorneys with active litigation matters, but the workload is manageable and the expectations are realistic.

What makes this opportunity different:
• Established, stable firm with a team that has worked together for many years
• Truly nice attorneys who appreciate their staff
• Reasonable caseload; no “how many files can we pile on?” mentality
• General liability defense litigation
• Professional, respectful work environment
• A firm where people actually know and work well with one another

Duties may include:

  1. Assist with medical and employment record review
  2. Prepare non-party subpoenas
  3. Prepare medical expense summaries
  4. Expert coordination
  5. Answer and propound discovery and organize, analyze
  6. Prepare file and attorney for depositions, CMEs, witness and exhibit lists, and trial preparation

If you’re tired of hearing about “work-life balance” and then discovering you’re responsible for an impossible number of files, this may be the change you’re looking for.

Experienced Litigation Paralegals with defense experience are encouraged to apply.
