Media Editing information

What is media editing?

Media editing involves selecting, modifying, and arranging audio, video, or digital content to create a polished final product. Media editors use specialized software to cut, enhance, and combine raw footage, sound, or images according to project requirements. Their work is essential in industries like film, television, advertising, and online content creation, ensuring that the end result is engaging and aligns with the intended message or story. Media editors also collaborate with producers, directors, and other creative professionals throughout the editing process.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a media editor?

To thrive as a Media Editor, you need a strong grasp of storytelling, visual composition, and content organization, often supported by a degree in media, communications, or a related field. Familiarity with industry-standard editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or Avid Media Composer is essential, and certifications in these tools can be advantageous. Attention to detail, creativity, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for managing feedback and collaborating with production teams. These skills and qualities are vital to producing polished, engaging media content that meets project goals and audience expectations.

What are some common challenges faced by media editors when working with tight deadlines?

Media editors often work under tight deadlines, especially in fast-paced industries like news, advertising, or digital content creation. One common challenge is balancing speed with quality, as editors must ensure that all content meets brand standards and technical requirements despite time constraints. Additionally, last-minute changes from clients or producers can require quick turnarounds and strong organizational skills. Collaborating effectively with writers, producers, and other team members is essential to streamline the process and deliver high-quality results on schedule.

Job description

Visual Media Specialist

Hillpointe is hiring a Visual Media Specialist to capture and produce photo and video content across the property portfolio. The Visual Media Specialist shoots and edits finished, brand-aligned content, working on-site in the model-unit studio and traveling frequently to communities across the portfolio. Reporting to the Creative Production Director and taking prioritization through the Director and Creative Project Manager, the Specialist produces four core content streams: learning media for L&D, marketing materials for Property Marketing, social content for Property Operations, and serialized brand-building content for YouTube. As the first capture hire based at the Hub, this person is a self-sufficient generalist who owns their work from shoot through final delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Capture & Production

Serve as the primary videographer and photographer for the property portfolio, capturing on-site at the Pointe Grand Hub model-unit studio and on-property in the field.

Direct all aspects of production: camera operation, lighting, audio, staging, and subject coordination.

Operate drones for aerial capture in compliance with FAA Part 107 regulations.

Use the on-site model unit as a controlled content studio for staged, lifestyle, and product content, and as a set for filming learning media.

Editing & Post-Production

Edit footage to polished, brand-aligned final deliverables across all content streams.

Work in Adobe Premiere Pro with After Effects, DaVinci Resolve, or equivalent; apply basic motion graphics.

Maintain visual consistency and adherence to Hillpointe brand guidelines across all output.

Keep organized file structures and hand finished assets into the team's delivery pipeline.

Content Streams

Learning Media (L&D) - Produce training and onboarding video for the Learning & Development team, often filmed in the model-unit set.

Property Marketing - Capture marketing photo and video assets that support leasing and property marketing.

Property Operations Social - Create ongoing social content for property operations teams.

Serialized YouTube - Shoot and edit episodes of serialized, brand-building YouTube content, produced to concepts set by the Director and brand team.

Collaboration & Workflow

Take assignments and priorities through the Creative Production Director and Creative Project Manager.

Partner directly with the Hub's L&D, Property Operations, and Property Marketing teams to scope and deliver their content needs.

Follow the Director's process for model/property releases and music/stock licensing on every shoot.

Use Monday.com for project tracking, timelines, and deliverables.

Travel & Field Work

Travel frequently across the property portfolio for on-site capture, scheduled in efficient blocks; the Hub is home base.

Work independently in the field, managing multiple shoots and deadlines across communities and job sites

Qualifications

3-5 years of experience in videography, photography, and editing.

Proficient with professional cameras, drones, gimbals, audio recording gear, and lighting setups.

Expert-level Adobe Premiere Pro; experience with After Effects, DaVinci Resolve, or equivalent.

FAA Part 107 drone certification required (or must obtain).

Strong eye for composition, lighting, and pacing.

Able to manage multiple shoots, meet deadlines, and adapt in a fast-paced environment.

Comfortable working independently and traveling frequently to properties.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in real estate, hospitality, or lifestyle content.

Photography strength across interiors, lifestyle, drone, and event.

Motion graphics skills beyond the basics.

Familiarity with Monday.com or similar project-management platforms.

Core Competencies

Creative Vision - Conceptualizes and executes visually engaging stories aligned with brand identity.

Technical Proficiency - Skilled in camera operation, lighting, sound, drone, and editing software.

Time Management - Juggles multiple projects, meets tight deadlines, and keeps organized file structures.

Collaboration - Works well across the Hub teams and the broader Creative Team.

Adaptability - Pivots quickly between projects, streams, and locations.

Attention to Detail - Delivers polished, high-quality, consistent work.
