Job description

Description

The Mechatronics Engineer will execute all aspects of the engineering process for both new and existing manufacturing test systems and assembly equipment. Reporting to the Mechatronics Manager, this position will conduct circuit design, electrical panel creation, test process development, software improvement and sustainment, fixture creation, analysis and repair of manufacturing equipment, and process improvement and sustainment. Some systems the team has created include: bed of nails test fixtures, non-destructive leak tester, pneumatic clamp, and a wind tunnel. The engineer is expected to independently manage technical projects, drive innovative solutions, and provide engineering expertise throughout the development, deployment, and sustainment of manufacturing systems and equipment.

Requirements

Essential Functions / Responsibilities:

Design, develop, implement, and maintain integrated systems that complete specialized production steps, automate a manual process, validate electrical characteristics, validate sensor accuracy, or validate product specifications

Gain understanding of existing NK product lines, materials, processes and technologies.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop and enhance electro-mechanical systems for new products that meet global standards and product requirements 

Create and maintain PCBAs and electronic panels for manufacturing equipment and test systems

Create and maintain instrument control programs for manufacturing equipment and test systems

Support mechanical assemblies for manufacturing equipment and test systems

Produce and maintain complete and accurate documentation including drawings, bill of materials, test specifications, lab reports, and technical construction files

Analysis and troubleshooting of integrated systems to identify and resolve any issues


Required Qualifications and Personal Qualities:

Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics, Electrical, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline

Ability to read and interpret schematics and determine appropriate test methods and strategies; experience designing circuits is a plus

Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in full-time engineering roles

Strong foundational skills in electrical and mechanical systems

Proficiency with electrical instrumentation (DMM, Oscilloscope, PSU, etc)

Experience using programming languages such as C, C#, TestStand, or similar

Strong curiosity, willingness to learn, and hands-on approach to problem-solving

Excellent communication and documentation skills


Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with metrology equipment or calibration processes

Experience with data acquisition systems such as PXIe

Experience developing bed of nails test systems


Supervisory Responsibility

This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.


Work Environment and Physical Demands

Climate-controlled manufacturing facility and offices. May be required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, climb or balance. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Dogs in office.


Training

Most training is on-the-job but formal education and training may be provided where appropriate.


Hours of Work/Location:

NK offices are located in Boothwyn, Pennsylvania. This position offers the option to work either: Four 10-hour days (4x10s) per week, or Five 8-hour days (5x8s) per week. Additionally, employees may be eligible for one remote (work-from-home) day per week, based on project needs and team coordination.
