Job description

The Heavy Duty Mechanic performs preventive maintenance on engines and hydraulic systems for on and off-road mobile equipment (including vehicles such as trucks and trailers) and maintains stationary equipment. Performs a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual laborer on construction projects.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Repair engine failures, mechanical and electrical system malfunctions, body repair, and replacing parts and components
  • Services machinery and mechanical equipment by completing repairs on engines, hydraulics systems, mobile and stationary equipment
  • Use computers to issue parts and update comments on work orders/task lists including diagnostic programs for engines and hydraulic systems, OEM, and brake systems
  • Prepares and maintains accurate records of services and repairs
  • Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs when needed
  • Maintains work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition and follows safety regulations
  • Demonstrates dependability in attendance, work completions, and flexibility to meet business needs
  • Effectively communicates with co-workers and customers in a positive manner
  • Any other tasks as assigned by supervisor

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience with basic knowledge of hydraulic systems, mechanical and electronic engines, mobile equipment, and vehicles
  • Ability to lift to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand for significant lengths of time in an industrial environment with exposure to all elements of weather
  • Ability to work as a team player in a fast-paced environment, with a strong work ethic and attention to detail to find the root cause for equipment failures
  • Ability to work overtime as necessary outside of normally scheduled shifts with little or no advance notification
  • Capable of performing a wide range of physical activities which include pulling, reaching, bending, climbing, and kneeling
  • Experience with hydraulics/pneumatics, wiring, and working on heavy equipment Proficient in reading and understanding technical documents, diagrams, and service manuals
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Valid Commercial Driver License is a plus
  • Welding, cutting, and fabrication skills

Position Type/ Expected Hours of Work

  • This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 am through 3:30 pm, minimum 40 hours per week and overt-time as required. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
