As a Design Engineer Level 2 located in Promontory, UT, you'll be a linchpin in missions of paramount importance, defining the art of the possible from day one.

The Structures Design Engineer is responsible for providing Integration Design Engineering over Rocket Motor Assembly, Igniter Design, Raceway Design, Thrust Vector Control Integration, Secondary Structures, and Mass Properties. The design engineer will also provide design engineering services on commercial rocket motor assembly projects, and perform systems engineering tasks related to interface control on piece part designs. Perform vehicle level integration tasks on pyro and range safety system, avionics integration, electrical cables and connectors, bonded attachments, and bolted designs.

This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Prepare 3D NX models, mechanical & assembly drawings, and specifications in accordance with company standards

  • Support mechanical & integration design on Defense, Commercial and IR&D Projects

  • Prepare test & instrumentation drawings, test plans, reports, and perform tolerance analysis

  • Prepare trades studies and milestone review presentations

  • Prepare ICD, N2 Interaction matrices and Interface Summary Sheets

  • Prepare requirement specifications and provide verification reporting

  • Perform structural analysis on secondary structures bracket designs

Basic Qualifications for Level 2:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil (Structural) Engineering or equivalent with 2 years of professional experience - OR - Master's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil (Structural) Engineering or equivalent

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance

  • Solid modeling experience (NX is preferred)

  • Experience with mechanical design including fastener selection and tolerance studies

  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Understanding of GD&T and drawing preparation skills

Preferred Qualifications for Level 2

  • Some exposure to rocket motor design or related aerospace discipline a plus

  • Experience with finite element (FE) analysis a plus

  • Curious, self-motivated and detail-oriented

Primary Level Salary Range: $79,300.00 - $118,900.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
