HVAC Apprentice / Mechanical Helper Bay City Plant

Position: Full-Time HVAC Apprentice / Mechanical Helper
Shift: First Shift (6:00 AM 2:30 PM, Monday through Friday)
Wage: $27.23 per hour
Location: Bay City Plant

The Bay City Plant is seeking a full-time HVAC Apprentice / Mechanical Helper to assist with the daily maintenance, repair, and operation of HVAC and mechanical systems throughout the facility. This role will work directly alongside a Licensed Journeyman HVAC Technician to support plant operations, preventive maintenance activities, and emergency service needs.

This is an excellent opportunity for an individual looking to grow their experience within industrial HVAC and facility maintenance environments.


Daily Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with inspections, maintenance, and repairs on HVAC equipment and mechanical systems
  • Supporting preventive maintenance (PM) activities and scheduled work orders
  • Assisting with troubleshooting heating, cooling, ventilation, and chiller-related issues
  • Responding to hot/cold service calls throughout the facility
  • Assisting with rooftop unit access, filter changes, belt replacements, and general mechanical support work
  • Helping maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Assisting with documentation of completed work and shift updates in Microsoft Teams or maintenance tracking systems
  • Supporting emergency HVAC response activities when needed
  • Assisting with material handling, tool organization, and project preparation
  • Following all plant safety procedures and PPE requirements

Qualifications
  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn HVAC systems and facility maintenance
  • Previous experience in maintenance, construction, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or mechanical work preferred
  • Ability to work safely at heights and in industrial environments
  • Ability to lift equipment and materials as required
  • Strong attendance and communication skills
  • HVAC schooling, trade school enrollment, or apprenticeship experience is a plus, but not required
  • Union membership is not required

PPE Requirements
  • FR-rated pants and long-sleeve shirt (8 cal minimum)
  • Non-slip safety boots
  • Safety glasses and ear protection (provided on-site)
  • Cold-weather gear suitable for rooftop work during winter conditions
  • Boot chains for winter roof access (provided on-site)
  • Fall protection equipment

Training / Certifications

Training will be provided as required for:

  • Fall hazard awareness and protection
  • Aerial lift operation
  • Scissor lift operation
  • Utility or burden carrier (or equivalent small transport vehicle) operation
