The Advanced Airframes Department within Raytheon Hardware Engineering provides Mechanical Engineering support to develop solutions for products across the Raytheon portfolio. Our core mechanical engineering responsibilities include requirements/conceptual development, design, integration, and test support. We partner with several Mechanical Product Team departments to provide full system solutions.
The Advanced Airframes Department is seeking a Mechanical Engineer II to join our team at our Tucson, Arizona location. In this on-site role, you will play a pivotal part as a member of a mechanical or cross-functional engineering team to design, analyze, and optimize next-generation aerospace mechanisms and structures.
Your responsibilities will include component and assembly modeling, documentation, implementation of design changes, and management of release processes. Key aspects of this role will involve interpreting and understanding engineering requirements, creating conceptual designs and technical data packages (TDPs), integrating Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) principles and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), performing first-order analyses, conducting engineering tests and preparing detailed test reports, as well as presenting during design reviews. This position may also require occasional travel to collaborate with vendors, support hardware procurement, oversee testing processes, and engage in related activities as needed.
What You Will Do
  • Collaborate with engineers to conceptualize, design, develop, analyze, integrate, and test hardware solutions, ensuring alignment with requirements.
  • Actively contribute to design peer reviews, address and resolve identified action items, and perform trade studies to facilitate informed and effective technical decision-making.
  • Operate independently with limited supervision to serve as the responsible engineer for mechanical hardware development and execution.
  • Oversee and manage supplier activities related to the manufacturing of hardware and/or sub-assemblies, including the resolution and disposition of non-conforming hardware.
  • Partner with other engineering departments and suppliers to address and resolve technical challenges efficiently.
  • Provide support for engineering hardware assembly, including build processes and fit checks.
  • Maintain adherence to established budgets and schedules, ensuring the timely and cost-effective completion of assigned tasks.

Qualifications You Must Have
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field.
  • Professional or University experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), basic tolerance analyses, and drawing practices and interpretation for mechanical hardware.
  • Experience with CAD design tools and/or best practices.

Qualifications We Prefer
  • Mechanical aptitude to provide solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for technical analysis, data sorting/plotting, and technical documentation.
  • Proficiency in utilizing CREO (Pro/E) or comparable 3D solid modeling software.
  • Hands-on experience with PTC Windchill Product Data Management or equivalent configuration and data management tools.
  • Demonstrated expertise in areas such as mechanical subsystem packaging, materials science, thermal analysis, structural analysis, tolerance analysis, energetics principles, control systems, interconnect design, airframe development, or large assembly engineering.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proven experience in supplier engagement and supplier management processes.
  • Existing DoD Secret or Top-Secret Clearance.

The salary range for this role is 68,900 USD - 131,100 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
