The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Mercer University invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track faculty position. Rank to be determined based on the credentials of the selected candidate.
Responsibilities:
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Mercer University invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track position in fluid mechanics, gas dynamics and/or thermal sciences. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses and develop a strong research program aligned with this field. The candidate should be an effective communicator with a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, service, and scholarship, aligned with the institution's educational mission. Additionally, the successful candidate should have plans to involve undergraduate students in research.
Duties include:
  • Official duties of a tenure-track faculty member include teaching and service activities as assigned.
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses.
  • Maintain a regular on-campus presence for face-to-face interactions.
  • Supervise capstone design projects and support student teams.
  • Engage in scholarly activities and seek external grant funding.
  • Employ sound pedagogical practices and appropriate instructional technology.
  • Advise students and provide individual assistance during weekly office hours.
  • Participate in course and laboratory revisions and curriculum development as assigned.
  • Attend department and college meetings and actively serve on college and university committees.
  • Participate in institutional events, including convocations, commencement exercises, and recruitment activities.

Qualifications:
Candidates must have an earned Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited institution by the start date. ABD candidates will be considered at the rank of Instructor until the Ph.D. is obtained.
Additional Information:
Mercer's undergraduate engineering program is ABET/EAC accredited. The School of Engineering offers both Bachelor of Science in Engineering degrees with specializations in biomedical, civil, computer, electrical, environmental, industrial, and mechanical, as well as Bachelor of Science in human-centered information design and industrial management. The undergraduate curriculum is dynamic, innovative, and broadly based, and includes the option of an integrated BSE/MSE degree program for qualified candidates.
The school offers the Master of Science in Engineering degrees with specializations in biomedical, civil, computer, electrical, environmental, engineering management, software, and mechanical as well as Master of Science programs in Cybersecurity, Environmental Systems, Software Systems, Technical Communication Management, and Technical Management. Total engineering enrollment is just over 650 students.
Mercer University is a private and comprehensive university and includes the Mercer Engineering Research Center in nearby Warner Robins, GA. The metropolitan Macon area, located 90 miles south of Atlanta, has a population of 250,000 and enjoys a four-season climate and a wealth of nearby historic, cultural, and recreational attractions.
Selection of the final candidate is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check.
