Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

This co-op position offers an experience uniquely designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and practical application in new product development, quality, operations, and manufacturing. Co-Op program students will have the opportunity to develop their engineering judgment and gain practical experience with gradually increasing autonomy over design decisions, processes, adaptations, and modifications. Activities may include conducting tests, making product and process changes using design and ERP tools, data analysis, and delivering presentations. With varying levels of experience, co-op students may also lead their own projects, fostering an environment of growth and innovation.

ESSENTIAL/PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Engages in research to innovate and enhance product designs and manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborates on cross-functional teams to gain comprehensive insights into new product development, encompassing mechanical, software, industrial, tooling, and supply chain aspects.
  • Participates in the design and analysis of complex parts and control systems, ensuring compliance with applicable standards.
  • Formulates control and component test specifications and is actively involved in all design phases, including testing and qualification for production.
  • Generates and maintains essential documents such as flow charts, schematics, source code, hazard analyses, validation test plans, Bill of Materials, Engineering Change Orders, and design records.
  • Learns and contributes to a design process that meets regulatory standards, including FDA, Good Manufacturing Practices, ISO 9001, Underwriters Laboratories Standards, Canadian Standards, IEC-60601, and any forthcoming regulations impacting product design.

SECONDARY DUTIES:

  • Executes engineering change orders and develops test protocols and reports.
  • Utilizes a diverse array of software tools, including 3D modeling software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Delivers formal presentations and reports on conducted work, facilitating clear communication and collaboration.
  • Actively participates and engages in the enterprise co-op program cohort.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Enrollment in a 4-year accredited degree program is required, with a focus on obtaining a Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or other related field.
