Join Us at Pura-Reimagining Fragrance for the Future
At Pura, we believe life is better when it smells good. Fragrance has the unique power to transform spaces, elevate moods, and create lasting memories. But we know it can do even more. That's why we're pioneering the future of fragrance, combining cutting-edge smart home technology with premium, clean scents to create personalized, meaningful experiences in every home.
We're not just a fragrance company-we're on a mission to change the way people experience scent. At Pura, we are redefining fragrance as a critical element of design, on par with color, texture, sound, lighting, and furniture. We call this Scent Design-transforming scent from an afterthought into an intentional, skillful component of every space. By blending artistry and science, Pura allows users to design their own "scentscapes" that enhance daily life and craft environments that feel as good as they smell.
Why Join Pura?
Our journey began with two innovators, Richie Stapler and Bruno Lima, and their shared vision of revolutionizing how we experience fragrance. Since then, Pura has grown into a company that sells a fragrance every 3.7 seconds, partnering with iconic brands like Curio, Anthropologie, and Disney. We've been recognized as the Fastest Growing Company in Utah, and we are passionate about making scent a core part of life's most memorable moments.
Your Role at Pura:
As a Principal Mechanical Engineer you will play a key role in creating best-in-class experiences for our customers through innovative design, helping us push our design boundaries in a scalable way. You will help us inspire a belief in the power of fragrance to craft and elevate memorable moments for our Owners. This is your chance to make an impact in a high-growth company that's redefining the way people experience scent.
What You'll Own:

  • Team Mentorship & Growth: Serve as a scalar for the engineering team, actively mentoring team members to raise the overall technical ceiling, helping define the long term technical direction. This includes helping the teams find growth opportunities and developing team members.
  • Innovation & Advanced Engineering: Push our design boundaries by researching and implementing disruptive manufacturing techniques, cutting-edge materials, and other new technologies that improve the customer experience.
  • Cross-Functional Alignment: Work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure component-level innovations are implemented seamlessly and that the system is optimized.
  • System Architecture & Strategy: Work cross functionally to define the full system architecture for the hardware development lifecycle, using your knowledge and engineering intuition to ensure that systems are optimized for performance, customer experience, scalability, and cost.
  • Operational Excellence: Lead the creation and implementation of standardized engineering tools and best practices to be used across all programs.
  • JDM Management: Partner with and provide technical oversight to manufacturing partners, ensuring all parties are technically aligned with Pura's aggressive innovation goals and high quality standards.

Essential Functions:
  • Lead Technical Innovation: Drive the development of upcoming product categories, acting as the primary systems engineer for Pura's future wearable device.
  • Team Mentorship and Growth: Work with the team to level up technical implementation, finding avenues for growth and knowledge sharing.

Qualifications:
  • Educational Background: BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Extensive Experience: 10+ years of experience in mechanical design and product development, with a proven track record of taking complex consumer electronics from concept to mass production
  • Systems Engineering Expertise: Demonstrated ability to architect systems, managing the critical intersections between mechanical, electrical, and firmware/software teams.
