Job description

Lead Sheetmetal Mechanic

AerSale is a global leader and market innovator specializing in aviation products and services to meet the growing demand for aftermarket support in global passenger, cargo, and government segments. Featuring complete aircraft nose-to-tail, value-added offerings, including Aircraft & Component Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul Services (MRO), Aircraft & Engine Sales and Leasing, Used Serviceable Material (USM) Sales and Parts Exchange, Flight Equipment Asset Management Services, Internally developed aircraft and component modifications (engineered solutions) designed to enhance aircraft performance and operating economics (e.g. AerSale, AerTrak and AerAware).

Job Summary: The Lead Sheetmetal Mechanic works as part of an integrated team on specific aircraft projects. The integrated team consists of the Project Manager, Aircraft Maintenance Supervisor, and the Lead Sheetmetal Mechanics. The Lead Sheetmetal Mechanic is responsible for creating and maintaining a safe work environment, managing costs and delivering a quality aircraft/product on time. The Lead Sheetmetal Mechanic prioritizes all work to be accomplished during a specific shift. Perform work within budgeted time within the Company, FAA, and our customers' standards of quality. His/her responsibilities include the setup of the oncoming shift in terms of job assignments that he/she coordinates with the off-going Lead Sheetmetal Mechanic on his/her specific shift so as to create a smooth transition during shift changes. The Lead Sheetmetal Mechanic also helps develop and maintain budget.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and maintain attendance records of assigned crew.
  • Audit and approve weekly work records of assigned work group.
  • Ensure accountability to conduct themselves within the guidelines of company policies, work rules and regulatory regulation.
  • Monitor performance and complete proficiency appraisals of assigned work group.
  • Promote a culture of safety by monitoring self and others to ensure all duties are performed within the guidelines as specified by the Company Safety Manual.
  • Manage operations in the most effective manner, eliminating waste and improving productivity.
  • Provide coaching, counseling and guidance to the assigned work group.
  • Maintain and track budgets as set by Project Manager. Communicate problem areas and resolve conflicts and discrepancies.
  • Perform any disciplinary actions required within the assigned work group in compliance with established guidelines.
  • Attend meetings as needed to discuss critical path areas, planned work, critical parts, and overall aircraft status.
  • Interact with Planner to set and prioritize daily activities and set aircraft delivery schedule.
  • Perform a daily area inspection to ensure a clean and safe working environment.
  • Perform periodic toolbox inspections.
  • Monitor confined space compliance.
  • Monitor LOTO procedures for compliance.
  • Ensure all IPM & FAA regulations are adhered to.
  • Participate in aircraft investigations to help find root causes and develop corrective actions.
  • Complete accident investigation and follow-up as needed.
  • Perform periodic in-process audits of assigned crew.
  • Monitor safety during work shift.
  • Meet with incoming Lead Mechanic and maintain detailed shift turnover.
  • Process N/R's to provide an accurate estimate and suggested repair.
  • Assign the proper manpower to perform work assignments.
  • Monitor mechanics' progress and give guidance.
  • Ensure technical training is provided to employees as needed.
  • Inspect work of mechanics prior to the quality control buybacks.
  • Ensure mechanics are using current data to perform maintenance tasks.
  • Ensure all required parts are ordered and tracked.
  • Provides the project manager and business planner with accurate data, estimates, and assists with the planning of the project.

Education and Experience:

  • Aviation I Business Degree or equivalent aviation experience preferred.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • Five (5) + years' experience performing as an accomplished aircraft mechanic with progression of responsibilities or have previous Production Supervisory experience.
  • A&P License Required

Skills and Abilities:

  • Advanced computer skills (knowledge of MS Office programs, such as Word, Excel) are preferred.
  • Capable of interpreting drawings and blueprints to accomplish a specific task.
  • Must have exceptional written and oral communication skills and be able to interact with a wide variety of people.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift fifty (50) lbs.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, and stand for prolonged periods of time, climb steps, ladders, and/or service stands.
  • Normal or corrected vision and hearing are required.
  • Subject to continual loud noise.
  • Reach/work above head, full extension with arms.
