Job description

Role Summary:

Designs customized and configured products to meet order related customer specifications. Creates and releases all necessary technical documentation for operations and customers. Performs sustaining engineering activities to improve reliability, manufacturability, and profitability of existing products including compliance to changing regulatory requirements. Utilizes CAD (Computer Aided Design) or CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) systems to model new designs and produce detailed engineering drawings.

The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for developing production-ready designs and technical documentation for complex valve and actuator systems. Core responsibilities include 3D CAD modeling, creation of manufacturing drawings, and performance of routine engineering analysis to support product requirements. Work scope includes component and sub-assembly drawing creation, as well as designing castings and forgings, needed to support Engineered to order orders.

Responsibilities:

  • This position performs a wide range of drafting and design functions with minimal supervisory involvement, including valve and actuator design, casting design, and structured Bill of Material development.

  • This position also supports creation and maintenance of item master structures and Bills of Material for nuclear, traceable, and commercial product lines (including MSIVs and gas-hydraulic actuators).

  • The engineer will interpret customer requirements, generate work requests, and deliver design layouts and production drawings that meet order specifications and applicable standards.

  • Regular communication with peers, supervisors, project engineers, and other plant groups is expected and often self-initiated for the most complex assignments.

  • Candidates must demonstrate the capability to manage multiple priorities effectively in a fast-paced engineering environment.

  • The role interfaces directly with engineering teammates, supervision, manufacturing, purchasing, field service, planning, and other functional groups to resolve product-related questions and support complex assignments. Duties also include researching technical records to validate product data, identifying correct part numbers, and supporting quoting process.

  • Additional responsibilities include timely completion of special engineering tasks, participation in Continuous Improvement efforts, and processing of Engineering Change Notices and as assigned administrative work.

Requirements:

  • B.S. Mechanical Engineering degree or relatable engineering degree

  • 3-5+ years minimum related experience.

  • Drafting, drawing creation based on ASME Y14.5.

  • Advanced SolidWorks knowledge

  • Skills in creating and modifying 3D parts created with surfacing features.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office package.

  • Proven competence in mechanical design and material compatibility.

  • Effective verbal and written communications.

  • Able to communicate and interact effectively with all levels of employees, customers, and business groups globally.

  • Collaborative team player and self-starter capable of working under minimal supervision.

  • USA Citizen.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of ANSYS is a plus (CFD, FEA)

  • Sand casting and manufacturing environment.

  • CSWP certification.

  • Basic Creo & AutoCAD knowledge.

  • Familiarity with the applicable ASME, ANSI and MSS standards a plus.

  • Successful valve related experience, ASME B16.34

  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous improvement processes.
