Mechanical Design Engineer

Full-time

Location: Spokane, WA

Our client, a leader in packaging and end-of-line automation for manufacturers, is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer who will develop detailed designs for secondary packaging equipment based on customer requirements communicated through written and verbal specifications. Responsibilities include creating equipment specifications, bills of materials (BOMs), and cost estimates, while overseeing design support activities and resolving technical issues throughout the project lifecycle, from development and manufacturing through installation and commissioning. In this role, you will also collaborate with and provide technical support to Sales, Project Management, Assembly, and Service teams, both on-site and remotely, as needed.

What makes you a great fit:

- You bring advanced technical expertise. You have strong experience in mechanical design and solid modeling, ideally using SolidWorks, with the ability to create accurate, detailed, and comprehensive packaging machinery designs.
- You communicate effectively and collaborate well. In addition to your technical knowledge, you demonstrate sound engineering judgment and can clearly share ideas and solutions while working cross-functionally with a variety of teams and stakeholders.
- You embrace change and drive continuous improvement. You view evolving requirements as opportunities to innovate, adapting quickly to customer needs and refining solutions to achieve the best possible results.

Responsibilities:

- Collaborating with Sales, Service, Project Management, and Manufacturing teams to deliver high-quality packaging solutions that meet customer expectations and project requirements.
- Developing innovative, reliable, and cost-effective machine designs that optimize performance, durability, and overall value for our customers.
- Proactively addressing engineering and design challenges through creative problem-solving to ensure projects remain on schedule, within scope, and aligned with customer needs.

Requirements:

- Bachelors degree in engineering OR a combination of relevant education and equivalent hands-on experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in packaging industry, machinery, mechanical, or automation design.
- Proven ability to develop detailed, accurate, and production-ready machinery designs.
- Strong knowledge of machine design principles and 3D CAD solid modeling; experience integrating robotic systems is highly desirable.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% as project needs require.
- Excellent technical aptitude with strong communication, organization, and analytical problem-solving skills.
- Experience with PDM, DriveWorks, and/or Emulate3D software is a plus, but NOT required.
