We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Small Engine Mechanic to join our maintenance team. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about repairing and maintaining small engines, including lawnmowers, chainsaws, and other outdoor power equipment. If you have a strong technical background and enjoy troubleshooting, this position provides a dynamic environment to apply your expertise and grow within our company.


Major Duties and Responsibilities

Performs tasks consisting of manual labor on behalf of the City

  • Works in conjunction with, and under the supervision of, the assigned Foreman, and Superintendent of Parks.ย 
  • Performs all required manual tasks needed to complete work orders
  • Maintains understanding and usage of tools and light equipment needed for work assigned
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on small engines and equipment, including mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, blowers, utility vehicles, generators, pumps, and other grounds maintenance equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, fuel system, and engine performance issues.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance programs to maximize equipment life and reduce downtime.
  • Inspect equipment for safety, operational readiness, and compliance with manufacturer recommendations.
  • Repair or replace defective parts, components, and systems.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records, including parts inventories and service schedules.
  • Order and track replacement parts, supplies, and shop materials as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment.
  • Assist with maintenance and minor repairs of department vehicles, trailers, and other equipment as assigned.
  • Perform seasonal equipment preparation, including winterization and spring startup procedures.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns in parks, facilities, and recreation sites.
  • Assist maintenance crews with operational needs during peak seasons, special events, emergencies, or severe weather situations.
  • Operate equipment and vehicles in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Maintain clean and safe workspace which includes inventory of parts and tools
  • Follow all department safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
  • Fulfills duties as a Maintenance Worker I when required: mowing, weed eating, trash clean-up, set up for events, fields, games, any other duty as requested
  • Responds to emergency call-outs for snow removal
  • This is a safety sensitive position

Job Context

On Call Status: Per occasion (inclement weather: snow, ice, natural disasters, etc.)

Percentage of Work Indoors: 80%

Percentage of Work Outdoors: 20%

Physical Work Associated with This Position: Standing, walking, stooping, crawling, climbing, bending, lift and move up to 75 lbs., seeing, hearing, talking.

Licenses and Certifications
