Job description

Description:

This position is located in Wilmington, Delaware. Catholic Cemeteries of the Diocese of Wilmington is seeking a Mechanic who will coordinate and perform activities related to the maintenance and repair of cemetery equipment including inspecting all vehicle engines and mechanical/electrical components to diagnose issues accurately in addition to conducting routine maintenance work (replacing fluids, lubricating parts, etc.) aiming to improve vehicle functionality and longevity.


The schedule for this full-time position is Monday through Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm, but may occasionally require days or times outside the normal work schedule.


Essential Functions:

  • Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts or systems such as power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering and hydraulics.
  • Completes machine shop operations.
  • Makes adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units.
  • Determined vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests: identifying worn and damaged parts.
  • Keeps equipment available for use by inspecting and testing vehicles, completing preventative maintenance such as tune-ups, oil changes, tire rotation, wheel balancing and replacing filters.
  • Maintains vehicle functional condition by listening to operator complaints, conducting inspections, repairing engine systems malfunctions, replacing parts and components, repairing body damage.
  • Verifies vehicle serviceability by conducting test drives and adjusting controls and systems.
  • Complies with all state and local vehicle requirements by testing engine safety and combustion control standards.
  • Maintains vehicle appearance by cleaning, washing and waxing.
  • Maintains vehicle records by recording service and repairs.
  • Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance and calling for repairs.
Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; and a minimum of five yearsโ€™ relevant experience.
  • Possess a knowledge of the fundamentals of small engine repair and basic electronics.
  • Possess a valid driverโ€™s license with an insurable driving record.
  • Ability to build trust and rapport with individuals from diverse cultural, socio-economic, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Willingness to consent to a satisfactory criminal background check and drug screening in accordance with applicable laws.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington.
