Job description

Diesel Mechanic Shop Lead  UP TO $35.00 HOUR

TNT Services is looking for an experienced Diesel Mechanic Shop Lead to take ownership of the day-to-day operations of our mechanic shop. This is a hands-on leadership position for an experienced diesel mechanic who knows how to diagnose problems, keep equipment moving, lead a team, and maintain a safe, organized, productive shop.

The Shop Lead will work alongside the mechanics while coordinating repairs, preventative maintenance, inspections, parts, scheduling, and overall shop workflow.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and direct the daily activities of the diesel mechanic shop.
  • Work hands-on with mechanics performing diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance.
  • Diagnose and repair diesel engines, trucks, trailers, pumps, hydraulic systems, and other fleet equipment.
  • Oversee preventative maintenance schedules and ensure repairs are completed correctly and on time.
  • Prioritize repairs based on safety, operational needs, and equipment availability.
  • Coordinate shop workflow and assign work to mechanics based on skill level and workload.
  • Inspect completed repairs to ensure quality, safety, and proper operation.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Help identify recurring equipment problems and recommend solutions to reduce downtime.
  • Maintain accurate service, repair, inspection, and maintenance records.
  • Monitor parts, supplies, and shop inventory and communicate when parts need to be ordered.
  • Work with vendors and outside repair facilities when specialized repairs or services are needed.
  • Ensure company vehicles and equipment receive required inspections and maintenance.
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment.
  • Enforce proper use of tools, equipment, PPE, and safety procedures.
  • Train, coach, and develop mechanics as needed.
  • Assist management with evaluating equipment condition, repair costs, and replacement needs.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and help get trucks and equipment back in service as quickly as possible.
  • Perform other mechanical and shop-related duties as needed.

What We’re Looking For

  • 5+ years of diesel mechanic experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of diesel engines and heavy-duty equipment.
  • Proven ability to diagnose mechanical problems and determine the proper repair.
  • Experience with preventative maintenance programs.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills involving mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to read and understand repair manuals, service information, and equipment documentation.
  • Experience leading, training, or directing other mechanics preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple repairs.
  • Reliable, dependable, and able to take ownership of the shop and its equipment.
  • Ability to work independently while also leading a team.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Must provide your own basic mechanic hand tools.

The Right Person

We are looking for someone who knows diesel equipment, takes pride in their work, and isn't afraid to get their hands dirty.

The Shop Lead needs to be a working leader—not someone who simply assigns work and walks away. You should be comfortable diagnosing a problem, grabbing your tools, helping a mechanic solve an issue, and making sure the equipment leaves the shop ready to work.

You should also be able to hold people accountable for quality, safety, productivity, and maintaining a professional shop environment.

What Success Looks Like

  • Trucks and equipment are maintained and repaired correctly.
  • Preventative maintenance is completed on schedule.
  • Equipment downtime is minimized.
  • Mechanics know what is expected of them and have the support needed to complete their work.
  • Repairs are properly documented.
  • Parts and shop supplies are managed effectively.
  • Safety and quality are never compromised.
  • The shop operates in an organized, productive, and professional manner.

Why TNT Services?

At TNT Services, our equipment is a critical part of our operation. We need people who understand that when a truck or piece of equipment is down, it affects the entire business.
The company offers comprehensive benefits, including:

  • Competitive Wages: up to $35.00 per hour based on level and experience.
  • Full Medical Benefits -comprehensive health, dental, and vision plans.
  • 401K Plan
  • Company Provided Accidental Life Insurance Policy
  • Paid Time Off (PTO)
  • Paid training in our Industry
  • Opportunity for growth

If you are an experienced diesel mechanic who is ready to take the next step into a leadership role while remaining hands-on, we want to talk with you.
