Job Description

Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC), located in Reno, Nevada is recruiting for a Maintenance Repair Specialist 1 for Facilities & Campus Operations in the Maintenance Department. The position will maintain, repair, and modify plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and paint work. Other duties include, but are not limited to, working special events and space set up; training part-time laborers, student workers and subordinate staff; installation of toilets and sinks; drywall repair and install; troubleshoot electrical issues; installing window coverings; working with vendors and contractors; coordinate and effectively prioritize work-load; manage work orders using the Jira system; build, setup and move furniture; handling irate customers in difficult situations in a helpful manner; communicate with clients to determine need; perform all duties in a safe manner according to institutional policy and procedure; keep others involved and informed; other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications

• This position requires four years (4) of progressively responsible experience under the supervision of journey level trades persons in two (2) or more of the major building or mechanical trades which included responsibility for performing a variety of repair and maintenance activities, laying out jobs and ordering materials; OR

• An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above

Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.

A valid Class "C" Nevada driver's license or higher operator's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

Schedule

The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.

While on call on the rotation schedule, the emergencies can extend the working day for longer shifts/extended hours.

Compensation Grade

Grade 30 (Step 01 $26.25/hr)

In classified service, salary is in Grade and Step. The Step is determined based on the Nevada Administrative Code. Salary placement above a Step 01 at initial appointment is determined based on the recruitment, the candidate's qualifications, internal equity and budgets. A request to accelerate salary must be approved by Human Resources and abide by the Nevada Administrative Code.
