The role requires attention to detail, willingness to learn, and good communication skills. It's a common starting point for those interested in a career in automotive repair or mechanical maintenance.

You also move vehicles and their parts and clean the work area. You may inspect the vehicle and note important observations for the mechanic. You remove and reassemble parts, assist with light maintenance duties, and keep equipment and tools clean for your supervising mechanic. Mechanic helpers typically work in this position for several months to learn the skills necessary to further their career and become a journeyman mechanic.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Mechanic Helper, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Mechanic Helper, you need a basic understanding of mechanical systems, good manual dexterity, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. These skills and qualities are vital for supporting mechanics effectively, maintaining safety standards, and ensuring efficient repairs and maintenance.

Can a mechanic make $200,000 a year?

While most mechanic helpers earn modest wages, experienced and specialized mechanics with advanced skills, certifications, and working in high-demand areas can potentially earn $200,000 or more annually, especially with overtime, bonuses, or ownership opportunities. Job description

Join Our Team

We're looking for an experienced bicycle mechanic who takes pride in doing exceptional work. If you enjoy solving mechanical problems, building beautiful wheels, restoring older bikes, and continually improving your skills, we'd love to meet you.

We believe great mechanics deserve great tools, ongoing education, and a workplace where quality always comes before speed.

What You'll Do

As one of our professional mechanics, your responsibilities will include:

  • Complete bicycle repair and maintenance
  • Precision wheel building and truing
  • Internal gear hub service
  • Custom bicycle builds
  • New bicycle assembly
  • Light suspension work (rear air can, fork lower leg service and seal replacement)
  • Service writing and customer communication
  • Diagnosing mechanical issues and recommending the best repair solutions

Our Philosophy

We repair bikes the right way.

We believe in craftsmanship, attention to detail, and helping customers keep quality bicycles on the road for years to come. We encourage repairing rather than replacing whenever it makes sense.

We're looking for someone who:

  • Takes pride in neat, organized work.
  • Enjoys learning and expanding their skills.
  • Isn't afraid to ask questions or consult service manuals.
  • Appreciates established repair procedures while contributing ideas of their own.
  • Cares about the environment by minimizing waste and properly recycling materials.
  • Wants to become one of the best mechanics in the industry.

You'll also have the opportunity to learn advanced shop skills, including lathe operation and custom fabrication.

Continuing Education

The bicycle industry changes constantly and we believe great mechanics never stop learning.

We ask our mechanics to dedicate approximately two hours each week to professional development through reading assignments and industry training such as Shimano S-TEC, SRAM STU, and other technical resources. Mechanics who continue to expand their knowledge position themselves for greater responsibility and higher earning potential.

We expect every mechanic to stay current with industry technology through regular professional development. Mechanics who continually build their skills have the opportunity to earn higher wages and take on more advanced work.

Shop Responsibilities

Everyone helps keep the shop running smoothly. Duties include:

  • Keeping your workbench clean and organized
  • Cleaning shared work areas as needed
  • Restocking lubricants, bearings, cables, ferrules, and shop supplies
  • Laundry for shop towels
  • Maintaining the sink and restroom
  • Ordering shop supplies and replacement parts
  • Scheduling and confirming service appointments
  • Opening and closing the shop
  • Providing friendly, knowledgeable customer service

Benefits

We invest in our team.

  • Paid attendance at industry trade shows such as CABDA and MADE
  • Paid professional training and continuing education
  • Online technical training during the slower season
  • Employee wholesale pricing on parts and accessories
  • Employee pricing for gifts purchased for your immediate family
  • Friday lunch provided by the shop
  • Competitive wages that support a comfortable standard of living
  • A professional, respectful workplace where quality craftsmanship is valued
  • All employees share in the tip pool based on hours worked (usually $1000 per month!)

Who we’re looking for:

The ideal candidate has professional bicycle repair experience and enjoys working on everything from everyday commuters to high-end performance bikes. They value precision, honesty, and lifelong learning, and they enjoy being part of a team that takes pride in exceptional workmanship.

If that sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you.

Company Description

Our shop specializes in professional bicycle repair, custom builds, and expert service for riders who value quality workmanship. We work on everything from everyday commuters to high-end road, mountain, cargo, and e-bikes, with a focus on repairing rather than replacing whenever possible. We believe in doing the job right the first time, using proven techniques, continual education, and meticulous attention to detail. Our goal is simple: keep great bikes on the road and provide honest, knowledgeable service that earns our customers' trust for years to come.
