Summary
Construction/Laborer employees are members of the Gas Distribution department. The work includes constructing, operating, maintaining and repairing gas facilities. The use of jackhammer, tamping, and digging equipment is essential to this job. This is a Safety Sensitive Position - D.O.T. testing is required. Safe driving record required.
Must obtain a Class A Driver's License within one year from date of hire.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Job Qualifications
Required:
  • Minimum 3 months construction, manufacturing, mechanical or related work experience.
  • Must be physically able to perform heavy construction work.
  • Must be willing to work outside in all types of weather.
  • Must successfully pass the Gas Battery preplacement test before hire.
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Because the job requires driving to company locations and off-site assignments and events, must possess a valid driver's license with a safe and satisfactory driver history.
  • Must successfully complete required training after hire.

Desirable:
  • Outside construction work experience.
  • Mechanical aptitude.

Per the Collective Bargaining Agreement, individuals hired into this position may not bid on positions outside of the Gas Distribution department and original reporting location for a period of 5 years.

High School
As an employee of PSE&G or PSEG Long Island, you should be aware that during storm restoration efforts, you may be required to perform functions outside of your routine duties and on a schedule that may be different from normal operations.
