Job description

G.A. West's sister company, Legacy Equipment is currently seeking a skilled and dependable Diesel Mechanic to join our maintenance team. The ideal candidate will have experience diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines and heavy-duty vehicles. This position is critical to ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our fleet and equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues in diesel-powered vehicles and equipment.
  • Perform repairs on engines, transmissions, brake systems, suspension, steering, and hydraulic systems.
  • Conduct regular maintenance such as oil changes, filter replacements, and tune-ups.
  • Use diagnostic tools, service manuals, and technical bulletins to troubleshoot and repair complex issues.
  • Maintain accurate records of all work performed and parts used.
  • Ensure all repairs and maintenance tasks meet safety and quality standards.
  • Perform inspections to identify wear and damage and recommend corrective actions.
  • Keep work areas clean and organized and comply with safety and environmental regulations.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED (Technical or vocational training preferred)
  • 2+ years of experience working on diesel engines or heavy equipment
  • Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electronic systems
  • ASE Diesel Certifications or equivalent are a plus
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and schematics
  • Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs, bend, squat, and stand for long periods

Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with heavy-duty trucks, trailers, buses, or construction equipment
  • Familiarity with DOT regulations and compliance inspections
  • Welding and fabrication skills a plus
  • Computer literacy for diagnostic software and repair documentation
