Machinery Maintenance Mechanic
Location: Huntsville, AL (NASA Marshall Space Flight Center - Redstone Arsenal)
Contract: METTS III
U.S. Citizenship required

Astrion is seeking a highly skilled Machinery Maintenance Mechanic to support the Marshall Engineering Technicians and Trades Support (METTS) III contract at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) located on Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama.
The METTS III contract provides comprehensive engineering technician and trade support services, along with professional and management oversight of technical staff in direct support of NASA programs and missions.
Position Description Summary:
This Machinery Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing mechanical components for CNC Machines, Mills, Lathes etc within a large machine shop. They will install, repair, rebuild, and maintain in efficient operating condition a wide variety of machines.
The duties of a Machinery Maintenance Mechanic includes but is not limited to:
• Examining machines and mechanical equipment to diagnose source of trouble
• Dismantling or partly dismantling machines and performing repairs that mainly involve the use of hand tools in scraping and fitting parts
• Checking wear on bearings, gears, belts, chains, couplings, and shafts
• Replacing broken or defective parts with items obtained from stock
• Lubricating moving parts, adjusting alignments, and replacing worn mechanical components
• Dismantling machines to replace or rebuild components such as pumps, compressors, gearboxes, conveyors, and hydraulic/pneumatic cylinders
• Communicating specifications for major repairs or parts that are needed
• Cleaning machines, maintaining shop areas, organizing parts and tools, and supporting installation of new equipment from a mechanical standpoint
• Other duties as assigned

• In general, the work of a Machinery Maintenance Mechanic requires rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.
Work Environment:
• Machine Shop, Laboratory, test environments, test stands, possible confined spaces. Loud/Noisy space.
Physical Requirements:
• Must be able to bend, stoop or lift occasionally with or without reasonable accommodation.
• All positions supporting the METTS III contract are contingent upon successful completion of NASA medical screenings at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter. The need for these screenings is determined based on the outcomes of the Safety, Health, and Environmental Job Assessment Questionnaire.
