The Senior Mechanical Engineer is a senior level individual contributor responsible for designing and analyzing mechanical and electro-mechanical products and systems. The Sr. ME is the technical expert for all products assigned. This individual is responsible for product design, alignment across functional teams, regular communication of progress, as well as escalation of any issues/blockers. The Sr. ME is the mechanical technology owner of the product development.
Responsibilities
  • Evaluate mechanical and electromechanical systems and products by designing and conducting research programs, applying principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, hydraulics, heat transfer, and materials
  • Confirm system and product capabilities by designing feasibility and testing methods and testing properties
  • Develop mechanical and electromechanical products by studying customer requirements, researching and testing manufacturing and assembly methods and materials, and soliciting feedback from operators
  • Develop manufacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment for fabricating, building, assembling, and installing components
  • Assure system and product quality by designing testing methods, testing finished product and system capabilities, and confirming fabrication, assembly, and installation processes
  • Prepare technical reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
  • Maintain product and company reputation by complying with government regulations
  • Maintain system and product database by writing computer programs and/or entering data
  • Interface with a cross functional team, such as Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, and Technicians to ensure requirements compliance throughout the entirety of a project
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to less experienced engineers, designers, technicians and other team members
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
  • Proficient in simulation and analysis using industry-standard software
  • Creatively solve complex problems using a variety of available tools and resources
  • Work within a broader program team and be able to communicate across functional boundaries to solve problems and achieve common goals

Qualifications
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 8+ years of experience in mechanical design and analysis
  • Expertise in advanced solid modeling with proficiency in creating complex geometric models (Autodesk Inventor preferred)
  • Experience with drafting principles and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) in accordance with ASME Y14.5
  • Proven technical writing skills, including creation of clear, concise documentation for engineering projects
  • Advanced understanding of heat transfer principles, strength of materials, materials selection methodologies, with the ability to apply theoretical concepts to unique, real-world mechanical design challenges
  • Perform thermal and structural analysis using industry tools (FEA & CFD)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Selected candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance issued by the U.S. Government throughout the course of their employment.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee frequently is required to walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand. Pay may range from 107,000 to 153,000 annually
The pay range above represents annual base salary only. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as your job level, geographic location, date of hire, experience, job-related knowledge and skills, and education in conjunction with market and business considerations.
Base salary is one component of your total rewards package. You may be eligible for long-term incentives, potential discretionary bonuses, and the ability to purchase company stock at a discounted rate through the Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP). OSI also offers comprehensive benefits including various options for health plans, access to 401(k) retirement plan, health savings account, disability insurance, life insurance, AD&D insurance, leave of absence programs and an array of voluntary benefits. In addition, paid time off is offered to be used for vacation, holidays, bereavement, and jury duty. Full-Time salaried employees are entitled to flexible time-off.
