Meat Manager

Purpose

The Meat Manager is the most senior level position in the Meat Department. This role ensures the store's meat department operates at the standards set by the company, driving sales and maximizing profitability. The Meat Manager is a key member of the organization maintaining a continuous focus on optimizing customer experience, sales, and efficiencies in their department and store.

Duties and Responsibilities

Leads the meat department to achieve and exceed sales, profitability, productivity, and shrink goals

Execute weekly plan-o-grams (Merchandising surveys)

Weekly competitor price check

Execute new Fresh Meat Programs (Marinated, 2 Meat Deal ect...)

Monthly Cutting test and reporting

Training proper load check ins, Training credit procedures

Strategically orders product and controls inventory to meet budget and business metrics

Sets department schedules, work priorities, and assigns tasks for Meat Cutters, Shift Leads, and Clerks

Directs pricing changes and ensures effective merchandising, displays, and case presentation

Ensures compliance with all company, USDA, COOL, food safety, sanitation, and operational policies, including required logs and documentation

Receives, inspects, and oversees proper storage and rotation of meat products to maintain quality and cold chain integrity

Performs hands-on meat cutting, packaging, labeling, and pricing while protecting company assets and supporting store operations

Ensuring all members of the Meat Department are adequately trained and operate under Leevers company standards.

Qualifications and Skills

Work history will be strongly considered, including attendance, work performance, safety, policy compliance and performance

Proficiency in basic math skills required, including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division

Ability to operate and understand the meat scale, meat saw, slicer, grinder, scale

Must be able to read, write and speak in English. Demonstrate effective oral and written communication, interpersonal skills. Language proficiency in Spanish or other languages is desired

Must be dependable and flexible, including a willingness to work in other areas of the store, as needed with little or no advanced notice

Excellent customer service, teamwork and problem-solving skills

Must adhere to a uniform dress code

Education and Experience

Must be 18 years of age

High School Diploma or equivalent (Required)

7+ years of experience safely using manual pallet jacks, hand tools and power equipment, including but not limited to knives, wrappers, scales, slicers, cubing machine, and power saw (where certified to cut meat) (Preferred)

Successful completion of Leevers Meat Cutter Training Program within six months

Physical Requirements

Requires the ability to reach, bend, balance, lift, and carry items weighing 20–50 pounds on a regular basis. Items weighing more than 50 pounds require a coordinated team lift.

Requires the ability to move heavy product with assistance

Requires ability to push, pull, grasp and use sawing motions for extended periods of time

This position is performed primarily in a meat cutting room, where the temperature ranges from 38-45 degrees Fahrenheit continuously, must be able to work in a temperature controlled (cold) environment for extended periods of time
