Job Summary
The position of Meat Cutter has the responsibility of ensuring that the Meat Department is a clean, safe, well stocked, inviting part of the store. The Meat Cutter demonstrates an intermediate knowledge of meat cuts and processing. The Meat Cutter is to assist the customers with information and location of products as well as suggest other items that may be of benefit to the shopper.
Essential Functions
-Properly trim the common as well as specialty cuts of beef, pork, poultry and other types of merchandise sold daily, ensuring that all displayed cases/shelves are adequately stocked at all times.
-Wrap, Weigh and Price all meat and related products following approved procedures ensuring that product pricing makes adequate allowances for Tare Weights and Shrink if applicable
-Greet customers and provide them with prompt, professional service as needed and assist in locating and/or retrieving merchandise
-Stock fresh product, rotate dated and/or perishable merchandise, pulling any out of date or damaged merchandise from the shelf and condition store shelves, cases, etc. when instructed
-Assist in receiving and unloading of merchandise, including checking the merchandise received to ensure proper count, quality and conditions

Education and Work Experience
• A high school diploma or GED equivalent is preferred
• One of the two qualifications listed below must be met:
1. A minimum of two years of experience as a Meat Cutter and successful completion of a Standard Competencies “Cutting” Test
2. Successful completion of The Apprentice Meat Cutter training program and subsequent on the job training
Language Skills
• Ability to read, write and speak English fluently (Spanish Desired)
• Ability to speak clearly
Mathematical Skills
• Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division)
Reasoning Ability
• The ability to discern when a customer is in need of some sort of assistance
• The ability to estimate within an accepted range the amount of any given product needed for a particular time period
Physical Demands
