Job description

About Homeward
Homeward takes the "what ifs" out of homebuying by creating financial products that give buyers and sellers certainty and convenience. We're a fast-paced, remote-first real estate startup that partners with real estate agents to offer innovative products and services, helping clients buy with cash, sell with certainty, and time their move, regardless of the market.
Founder and CEO Tim Heyl, owner of one of the fastest-growing agent teams in the country, started Homeward in 2018 to fix the antiquated and broken real estate process. Today, we offer bundled cash offers, mortgage, and title services in 13 states, enabling buyers and sellers to move with certainty and convenience.
We're a fully remote company with a diverse team spread across several countries - Grounded in three core values: The Golden Rule, One Team One Dream, and Calm Focus. Hear from our employees about what our values mean to them.
About The Opportunity
We're seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our acquisition team engineers as we grow our Product & Tech team. The ideal candidate will have a history of leading their team(s) to deliver quality features and products in a timely manner, and they'll bring their experience and skills to the table when it comes to scaling up our team and its processes.
NOTE:
  • We're looking for a manager that is actively coding - Player (40) : Coach (60)
  • Due to current team needs we're only accepting applicants based in the greater Austin area.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead a team of 3-4 software engineers in the consistent, timely delivery of quality features and products
  • Own not just timely delivery, but validating that what the team ships actually works for our customers and operators
  • Foster a build, test, learn culture - shipping practical MVPs and iterating on feedback rather than waiting for perfect requirements, and helping the team stay effective amid ambiguity
  • Cultivate fluid collaboration across the stack and minimize serialized hand-offs, so work moves without "throw it over the wall" delays
  • Practice and champion strong engineering methods and practices
  • Set the team's norms for AI-assisted development - how engineers use AI coding assistants (Claude, Copilot) to speed up prototyping, code review, debugging, and documentation - and clear the path to adoption
  • Help your team build good judgment about where AI tools genuinely help and where they don't, keeping the quality bar high
  • Adapt the team's process as AI-assisted development changes how quickly work moves, and use metrics to make those calls
  • Coach team members as they take on greater skills and responsibilities
  • Work with product managers to understand requirements, prioritize backlogs, and set timelines
  • Own business metrics alongside product managers and cross-functional business partners
About You:
  • 2+ years of experience as a front-line manager in a high-growth organization
  • 7+ years of experience as an individual contributor
  • Demonstrable front-end or full-stack experience
  • A track record of adopting AI-assisted development on your team and turning it into real throughput - not just tool licenses
  • Enough fluency with AI-powered features (LLM API integrations, RAG, AI-driven automation) to scope, estimate, and make architecture calls credibly with your team
  • Experience working on systems with both monoliths and microservices - bonus points if you can help determine when it's right to use one or the other
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to keep distributed, cross-functional teams aligned
  • Incredibly strong ownership of delivering the right solutions at a high quality
  • General curiosity and comfort navigating a fast-changing AI landscape
  • Bonus: experience working in the Python web dev ecosystem (e.g., Flask, Django, Celery, etc.)

Pay & Benefits
Compensation:
  • $170k base salary.
  • Annual performance bonus eligibility.
  • Meaningful equity grant - stock options with real upside potential.

Benefits:
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and life insurance coverage - with company contributions towards premiums.
  • Meaningful time off - including 20 days of paid vacation, 5 sick days, 12 company holidays, and 2 floating holidays.
  • Generous paid parental leave of up to 13 weeks.
  • 401(k) with employer contribution match.
  • Remote-first work environment (our headquarters are in Austin, TX).
  • Collaborative, low-ego team that values intellectual curiosity and continuous improvement.

Value-Driven Employee Experience
THE GOLDEN RULE. It's simple: Treat others the way we want to be treated. Whether we're dealing with colleagues or customers, we don't prioritize money or growth over people, and we practice empathy at every opportunity.
CALM FOCUS. We work in tech and build solutions for real estate. Both are fast-paced and stressful industries. But by focusing on the larger objective rather than rushing from one task to the next, we can create solutions our customers love.
ONE TEAM, ONE DREAM. Big problems require big solutions. We look at our customers' experiences holistically and recognize that solving them requires collaboration across teams and our three affiliate companies - Homeward, Homeward Mortgage and Homeward Title.
