EAST RUTHERFORD NJ


Position Summary

This Security Guard position is responsible for ensuring safety in a number of different areas in maintaining an assigned post as well as conducting routine patrols. In addition to regulating and patrolling the Grandstand building, working assigned posts (indoor/outdoor) the Security Guard sets up proper equipment for events, logs any activities or irregularities during shift, and assumes a proactive role in keeping the facility safe.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintains assigned post during designated hours and ensures security of perimeter by staying alert and focused if any activity should arise.
  • Patrols premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows, and gates, etc. in a consistent fashion or as needed.
  • Sets up proper equipment for events and venue such as barricades, checkpoints, etc. to help regulate patron flow during high volume times.
  • Writes report of daily activities and irregularities during shift, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences.
  • Monitors and authorizes entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and other persons to guard against theft and maintain security of premises.
  • Circulates among visitors, patrons, and employees to preserve order and protect property as well as offer assistance and customer service in all areas of security.
  • Warns persons of rule infractions or violations, and apprehends or evicts violators from premises while following established company procedures.
  • Answers alarms and investigates disturbances to ensure thorough follow up on potential threats to security.
  • Escorts individuals to specified locations or drives motor vehicles to supplement patrol duties.
  • Inspects and adjusts security systems, equipment, and machinery to ensure operational use and to detect evidence of tampering.
  • Assumes a proactive role in safety awareness and training to mitigate risks that could affect the day-to-day operations of the facility.
  • Checks all employee credentials upon entrance.
  • Checks all bags/packages upon entry.
  • Assists all patrons with directions and wheel chairs if requested.
  • Secures all entry doors when post is vacant.
  • Assists in emergency evacuation procedures – notification/documentation of incident and crowd control.

Qualification Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice or related field preferred. Previous experience in security / surveillance

Special Qualifications: Advanced people skills; diffusing hostility, diversity training, verbal communication, crowd control. Ability to walk for long periods of time, run in the case of emergency and stand for the duration of their shift maintaining posts.

Language Skills: Basic language skills apply.

Mathematical Skills: Basic math skills apply in certain circumstances.

Reasoning Ability: Associate needs to have common sense reasoning in a variety of situations.

  • Must have or be able to obtain a NJ Racing License, a NJ Gaming License (if necessary), and satisfy all regulatory requirements.
