JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: General Aide WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Nonexempt
REPORTS TO: Principal PAY GRADE: Paraprofessional 030 (187 days)
DEPARTMENT: Assigned Campus(s) DATE REVISED: March 2024
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education/Certification:
  • Educational Aide I Paraprofessional Certificate
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • At least 60 college semester hours are preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Ability to work well with children
  • Ability to use/learn basic computer applications
  • Knowledge of general office equipment
  • Effective written and oral communication, organization and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient skills in basic math
  • Bilingual English/Spanish speaking preferred
Experience:
  • One-year clerical experience or equivalent experience preferred
  • Experience working with children/students and parents
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
General Responsibilities:
  • Perform receptionist/clerical duties in the office or designated location as a signed
  • Maintain confidentiality of information
  • Assist in the maintenance of administrative records and preparation of reports as required
  • Assist in inventory, care, and maintenance of records, materials, and equipment as assigned
  • Assist in preparing materials/displays for instructional or campus operations
  • Answers incoming calls politely, takes reliable messages, and routes to appropriate staff
  • Prepare bibliographies, forms, purchase orders, requisitions, and routine correspondence
  • Receive and process books, materials, and equipment and reconcile with packing slips and invoices
  • Shelve books, materials, and equipment. Help inventory physical and online resources. Distribute and dispatch materials from/to the library and other sources including but not limited to other district libraries, public libraries, Region X Educational Center
Instructional Strategies:
  • Work with individual students or small groups to conduct instructional exercises and activities
  • Keep teachers and Administrators informed of any special needs, problems, and progress of individual students
  • Teach the lesson outline and described in the teacher's lesson plans, substitute teacher guide, and as otherwise prepared
  • Consult as appropriate with the principal, or does it for me before initiating any teaching or other procedures not specified in the instructional plans provided
Classroom and Campus Management and Organization:
  • Maintain as fully as possible the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which assigned
  • Oversee the behavior of students throughout the school day, both inside and outside of the classroom
  • Supervise various areas of the campus both inside and outside the building, including but not limited to the library, cafeteria, classrooms, and gym
  • Maintain a neat and orderly classroom
  • Works cooperatively with others.
  • Exhibits good public relations skills. Interacts with staff, students, parents, and the community in a way that has a positive impact on students and the Irving ISD community
Professional Growth and Development:
  • Is punctual to scheduled meetings, appointments and classrooms.
  • Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meeting, and special events as required
Policy Implementation:
  • Follow all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject In which good teaching practices dictate.
  • Adheres to all Board policies, Professional Code of Ethics, and Campus and District administrative procedures.
  • Is present and on time to work daily and adheres to all time clock and attendance procedures and policies.
Equipment Used:
  • Computer/peripherals, audiovisual equipment (analog and digital), laminator, facsimile, copier, multi-phone line, fax machine

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Directly supervises none.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Must maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem-solving skills while under stress. Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Should be able to interpret procedures and analyze data for decision-making. Frequent in-district and occasional in-state or national travel. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours. Moderate to heavy lifting of materials and equipment up to 30 pounds without assistance. Frequent standing, stooping, stretching, climbing, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling. Complete detailed work with frequent interruptions. Repetitive hand motions. Prolonged use of computers.
Safety: Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidents immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
