Job description

Summary

The lab is seeking a MD/PhD Postdoctoral Associate for appointment in the NIH/NHLBI T32 training grant, entitled “Collaborative Research Training in Thrombosis and Inflammation.”  This program aims to train postdoctoral scientists for collaborative research careers in two inter-related topics: thrombosis and inflammation. There is increasing evidence of a direct relationship between thrombosis and inflammation in numerous human diseases. As examples, inflammation contributes to the pathogenesis of thrombotic disorders such as stroke and coronary artery disease, while thrombosis is linked to conditions associated with inflammation that includes obesity, cancer, sepsis, COVID-19, and many others. The Postdoctoral Associate will train under the primary mentorship of a primary mentor and a mentoring committee composed of research faculty from the Center for Translational Research on Inflammatory Diseases (CTRID) a joint initiative between Baylor College of Medicine and the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center. The program includes a unique combined curriculum with shared didactic and clinically.

Job Duties
  • Plans, directs, and conducts specialized and advanced research experiments under mentor guidance that includes studies in basic science, animal models, and/or clinical research related to thrombosis and inflammatory disease mechanisms.
  • Analyzes and interprets experimental and clinical data.
  • Establishes new research protocols and procedures.
  • Prepares abstracts, presentations, and manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals and scientific meetings; participates in seminar and research presentation activities.
  • Participates in collaborative and interdisciplinary research training; participates in shared didactic and clinically oriented training components.
  • Supports laboratory and research operations by maintaining organized research records, assists with laboratory workflow, ensures adherence to safety and compliance requirements, and contributes to efficient research operations.
  • Engages in basic, clinical and/or translational research involving the interactions between inflammation and thrombosis. 
  • Oversees research experiments, data and sample collection procedures.
  • Assists with data analyses/presentation, and writes up of manuscripts.
  • Assists in supervising staff and students, works with collaborators to develop and conducts related projects, assists in development of grant proposals, and present work at seminars.
Minimum Qualifications
  • MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
  • No experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong background in translational research in medicine, nutritional, and lifestyle/behavior, and cellular/molecular biology is desired.
  • Be motivated, enthusiastic, careful, and able to think critically.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and has the ability to work effectively in a team environment and is highly organized.

Work Authorization Requirement:

This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of application and throughout the duration of employment.
