The Senior Manager, Product Design, will lead a team of product designers responsible for creating AI-enabled, user-centric design experiences across Pharmacy Management, Clinical Service and Inventory Optimization technology products. This role combines people leadership, human-centered design practices, design strategy, and AI innovation to deliver scalable solutions that optimize workflows, improve customer experiences, and drive business outcomes.

As the Senior Manager, Product Design, this individual will build and champion an AI-led design vision while owning end-to-end product design initiatives from discovery to launch. Partnering closely with Product and Engineering Leadership, this role will empower cross-functional teams to leverage AI powered design practices, research methodologies, and tooling to accelerate product design and delivery. Further, this leader will own design artifacts that align to the product strategy and business outcomes.

Reporting to the VP of Product, the Senior Manager, Product Design will lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of designers. Additionally, this role will drive consistency across the product ecosystem, define scalable design practices, and prioritize speed to market using AI workflows and innovation. As a strategic leader, this role will drive the maturity of an AI-led design ecosystem that implements modern design practices and spearheads iterative design improvement of cross portfolio products.

McKesson Pharmacy System (MPS) is an independent business within the larger McKesson Commercial Strategy & Innovation (CSI) organization.

Key Responsibilities

AI Product Design Leadership  

  • Lead a team of product designers responsible for launching AI- enabled product experiences for platforms across web, mobile, enterprise and other channels from discovery to launch, driving continuous optimization. 

  • Champion AI-led design methodologies, tools, rapid prototyping, and workflow automation to accelerate the design lifecycle and improve product quality. 

  • Define and track customer experience metrics including adoption, usability, engagement, and satisfaction to provide continuous support of product portfolio health.  

  • Partner with product, engineering, data, and customer success to integrate customer insights into product strategy to drive leading solutions that drive business outcomes. 

  • Mentor and coach junior designers to enrich the design craft, AI proficiency, and career advancement. Communicates business outcomes and ensures that design deliverables tie to the product strategy. 

Design System & Architecture 

  • Define and own the long term-vision and strategy for AI-assisted design systems that drive consistency across components, accessibility standards, and interaction patterns across the product portfolio. 

  • Establish and socialize best practices that drive continuous improvement for reusable interaction patterns, components, frameworks, product design recommendations, and personalization. 

  • Spearhead alignment across engineering, product, and data to establish reusable design to development frameworks that drive cohesive customer experiences and focus on speed and quality. 

Design Innovation  

  • Craft best practices and AI-led design standards that are accessible, trustworthy, and adhere to regulatory compliance standards. 

  • Assess and operationalize AI design technologies and automation tools that drive team productivity, design efficiency, and innovation. 

  • Foster a design culture amongst designers and other cross-functional partners centered around continuous learning of AI principles, emerging industry trends, and product design optimization. 

Cross Functional Leadership 

  • Serve as the design leader across product, engineering, data, customer success and other commercial businesses to translate complex initiatives and problems into AI-forward, human-centered design. 

  • Lead executive level discussions and product design workshops and reviews that drive alignment, resolve challenges, and encourage effective decision making to support business outcomes. 

  • Influence product portfolio strategy and key decisions, roadmap development, and investments by providing feedback about customer experiences and success metrics. 

Minimum Requirement

Degree or equivalent experience. Typically requires 9+ years of professional experience and 1+ years of supervisory and/or management experience.

Education

Bachelor's degree in human-computer interaction, graphic design, visual design, industrial design, information architecture, information systems, computer science or a related field; or equivalent experience. 

Critical Skills

  • 9+ years of progressive experience in product design experience in enterprise, platform, SaaS, digital experiences. ​1+ year of management experience leading product design teams. 

  • Proven experience owning end-to-end product design for complex technical product portfolios in enterprise, platform, or SaaS environments from discovery to launch. 

  • Experience leading and developing high-performing design teams, including performance management, career development, and succession planning. 

  • Extensive experience establishing design operating mechanisms and design review practices that drive continuous improvement across product teams and a strong understanding of customer research methodologies.  

  • Expert level proficiency in Figma including AI-enabled prototyping, design systems architecture and governance, component libraries, design tokens, and responsive design. 

  • Deep expertise in AI-driven design concepts including human-AI interaction patterns, design system management, product ideation, rapid prototyping, prompt engineering, content generation and UX writing, image generation, UX research, and responsible AI principles. 

  • Experience establishing, leading, and refining scalable design frameworks, design standards, interaction patterns and exercising judgment on where to enforce design consistency versus empowering product- specific customization. 

  • Expert cross-functional leadership, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to own discovery sessions, design workshops, executive reviews, and strategic working sessions that drive alignment with product, engineering, marketing, customer success, and commercial leaders.  

  • Excellent communication, visual presentation, and storytelling skills with the ability to synthesize customer insights, technical concepts, and design recommendations into executive ready narratives. 

  • Strong experience implementing AI-enabled design workflows, automation capabilities, and emerging AI tools increase team productivity, delivery, and design quality.  

Preferred Experience

  • Advanced degree (MBA, MS in business strategy, design, innovation, or related). 

  • Proven experience defining, scaling, and managing design systems across product portfolios while enabling teams to deliver innovative customer experiences at scale. 

  • Deep understanding of AI-enabled design to code workflows including automated prototyping, code generation, and the integration of design systems into product development practices. 

  • Familiarity with technical product concepts, cloud platforms, data ecosystems, and API-driven models is beneficial. 

  • Experience in healthcare, pharmacy operations, supply chain, or predictive analytics domains. 

Working Conditions 

Traditional office or hybrid environment, depending on location. Some travel required for cross-site collaboration and customer/partner engagements. 

This position offers the possibility of a hybrid work arrangement based on recent updates to our in-office/work‑from‑home model.  If located in DFW area, the selected candidate may be expected to work on‑site at our Las Colinas office a minimum of two (2) days per week, with the remaining days worked remotely. Specific in‑office days may be designated according to team needs and business priorities.
