Job description

Sonographer (Ultrasound)

The Ultrasound Technologists care shall cover the range of mobile Ultrasound services. Operating special equipment that uses high-frequency sound waves to record images of internal organs as would be provided in a state-of-the-art civilian medical treatment facility. The standard of care shall be of a quality, meeting or exceeding currently recognized national standards as established by the professional standards of the Joint Commission (TJC) and the American Hospital Association (AHA) Duties of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Independently performs standard examinations.
  • Evaluates the nature of critical and emergency procedures, and rearranges patients scheduled to accommodate them.
  • Maintains records and image files of patients examined. Cross-indexes interesting cases for teaching purposes.
  • Performs studies of the liver, gallbladder, pelvis, spleen, pancreas, abdominal aorta, using real time techniques to evaluate the structures for size, abnormal contour, cysts and various pathologic disorders.
  • Performs Doppler examinations of the portal vein, IVC, scrotum and kidneys. Effectively uses Doppler to supplement the examinations of other organs when needed.
  • Performs vascular studies of the extremities upper and lower (venous).
  • Performs studies of the kidneys, adrenal glands, nodes and urinary bladder using real time Gray scale techniques to perform examinations for detection of renal cysts and tumors, adrenal masses, lymph node enlargement, retro peritoneal hematomas, abscesses and abnormalities of the urinary bladder
  • Explain the ultrasound procedure to patients and answer any questions they may have.
  • Maintain ultrasound equipment and sterilize the room in which the procedure takes place.
  • Spread the ultrasound gel on the surface of the patient's body covering the internal area being imaged.
  • Perform the ultrasound ensuring the transducer (probe) is capturing images of every angle/section that must be assessed.
  • Evaluate the images for their quality, but also to interpret what was captured in the image.
  • Present images and preliminary findings to physicians and the healthcare team.
  • Maintain patient records and add medical notes related to the ultrasound procedure

Requirements:

  • American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) certification.
  • Two (2) years of general ultrasound experience doing radiology exams.
  • Must have experience in general abdominal, renal, liver, pelvis, thyroid, scrotum, soft tissue examinations
  • Shall be comfortable performing 2D/3D Mammography and complex procedures to include stereotactic and ultrasound-guided biopsies as well as scheduling and reporting on MRS (Mammography Reporting System).
  • Must have experience in Client Hologic Selenia Dimensions. Siemens Ultrasound experience is a plus.
  • Experience with McKesson PACS highly desired.
