#### Job Summary
As an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Assistant, you will play a crucial role in assisting surgeons during procedures, preparing patients and equipment, and maintaining a sterile and efficient clinical environment. This position requires strong organizational skills, the ability to multitask under pressure, and a commitment to patient safety and comfort in a dynamic, high-volume setting.
#### Key Responsibilities
- Assist surgeons during oral and maxillofacial procedures, including passing instruments, managing suction, and monitoring patient vital signs.
- Prepare surgical trays, sterilize instruments, and ensure all equipment is ready and functioning properly before each procedure.
- Greet and prepare patients for surgery, including taking medical histories, explaining procedures, and obtaining informed consent.
- Maintain accurate patient records, including charting, updating electronic health records (EHR), and documenting post-operative instructions.
- Manage inventory of surgical supplies, order materials as needed, and ensure compliance with infection control protocols (e.g., OSHA and CDC guidelines).
- Provide post-operative care, such as monitoring recovery, applying dressings, and educating patients on aftercare.
- Handle administrative tasks, including scheduling appointments, coordinating with referring dentists or physicians, and assisting with insurance verifications in a busy office environment.
- Collaborate with the surgical team to optimize workflow, troubleshoot issues, and contribute to a positive patient experience.
- Participate in ongoing training and stay current with advancements in oral and maxillofacial surgery techniques and best practices.
#### Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a certified Dental Assistant or Surgical Assistant program preferred (e.g., DANB certification or equivalent).
- At least 1-2 years of experience as a surgical assistant, ideally in oral and maxillofacial surgery or a related field; experience in a busy clinical setting is highly desirable.
- Current CPR/BLS certification required; X-ray certification (if applicable in your state) is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of sterile techniques, surgical instruments, and anesthesia monitoring.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to comfort anxious patients and work effectively in a team.
- Proficiency in EHR systems (e.g., Dentrix, Eaglesoft) and basic computer skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, with flexibility for occasional extended hours or on-call duties.
- Physical requirements: Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 25 lbs, and perform tasks requiring fine motor skills.

- Familiarity with advanced procedures such as wisdom tooth extractions, jaw reconstructions, or facial trauma repairs.
- Bilingual abilities (e.g., Spanish) to better serve diverse patient populations.
