Matrix New World Engineering is seeking a Senior Technical Director – Site Remediation to help build and expand our site investigation and remediation practice in the New York and New Jersey region.

This role is designed for a senior technical practitioner and client advisor with deep expertise in hydrogeology, contaminated site investigation, and/or remedial engineering. The successful candidate will serve as a technical leader, project director, and practice builder, leading complex environmental projects while helping grow Matrix’s presence with key clients across industrial, infrastructure, redevelopment, and legal sectors.

The position is well suited for a recognized technical leader with 20+ years of experience who enjoys remaining actively engaged in project work while helping develop a strong remediation practice.

Compensation: $165,000 – $200,000 + performance-based bonuses, commensurate with experience.

Technical Leadership
  • Serve as a senior technical authority in site investigation, hydrogeology, and/or remedial engineering.
  • Lead development of conceptual site models and remediation strategies for complex contaminated sites.
  • Provide technical oversight for investigation and remediation programs involving soil, groundwater, vapor intrusion, and emerging contaminants.
  • Evaluate remediation technologies and support remedial design and implementation.
  • Review and direct preparation of key technical deliverables including:
    • Remedial Investigation Reports
    • Feasibility Studies
    • Remedial Action Plans
    • Groundwater monitoring programs
    • Remediation system design documents
Project Leadership
  • Serve as Technical Lead or Project Director on complex remediation programs.
  • Manage multidisciplinary teams of engineers, hydrogeologists, scientists, and environmental specialists.
  • Oversee planning, scope definition, budgeting, scheduling, and delivery of technical projects.
  • Ensure technical quality, regulatory compliance, and defensibility of project work.
  • Support field programs including site characterization, drilling, groundwater investigations, and remediation system implementation.
Practice Development
  • Help build and expand Matrix’s site remediation practice across our True Platform of companies.
  • Identify strategic opportunities with existing and prospective clients.
  • Support recruitment, mentoring, and development of technical staff as the practice grows.
  • Work with firm leadership to shape the technical direction and growth strategy of the practice.
Client Engagement & Business Development
  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor to industrial, real estate, legal, and institutional clients.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key clients and regulatory stakeholders.
  • Lead and support proposal preparation and technical scoping of new opportunities.
  • Identify opportunities for cross-disciplinary services across Matrix’s engineering and environmental practices.
Litigation & Expert Support
  • Provide technical consulting related to environmental litigation and regulatory matters.
  • Support attorneys and corporate clients with technical evaluations and defensible conclusions.
  • Assist in preparation of expert reports and technical opinions when required.
Required Qualification
  • 20+ years of experience in environmental consulting, hydrogeology, or remedial engineering.
  • Demonstrated expertise in site investigation and remediation of contaminated properties.
  • Experience leading complex environmental remediation projects.
  • Strong understanding of federal and state remediation frameworks.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary project teams and complex technical scopes.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE), Licensed Site Remediation Professional (LSRP) or Professional Geologist (PG) licensure.
  • Experience supporting environmental litigation or expert testimony.
  • Familiarity with regulatory programs in New York and/or New Jersey.
  • Experience with groundwater modeling, remediation system design, or advanced site characterization.
