Job description

Description
Reporting to and working with the directors of Africa2080-Professor Tavneet Suri at the Sloan School of Management (hereinafter Sloan) and Professor Robert van der Hilst in the Department of Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences-the Digital Learning Fellow will develop course curricula for a set of modules for a bachelor's degree in Entrepreneurship and Management, targeted to an African audience. They will leverage existing MIT courses on MITx Online, Sloan, and existing OpenEdX and Canvas platforms. This is a one-year position, starting as soon as possible, with the possibility to renew (subject to funding and satisfactory performance).
The Digital Learning Fellow will work with Professors Suri and Van der Hilst, educational staff at MIT, and faculty at partner institutions in Africa to develop courses that include learning objectives, detailed content outlines, measurable outcomes, interactive activities, engaging video, and thoughtful discussion forums. For some existing courses at Sloan, the Fellow will create assessment systems. Ideally, they will also help to explore how AI can be leveraged in online education. Some of the content creation will be in studios in West Africa, so the position will require travel and collaboration with local creatives. They will be responsible for developing and launching courses on time, on budget, and to MIT quality standards.
Qualifications
*Advanced degree (Ph.D. or Graduate level) in field of applied entrepreneurship, management, or related field
*Minimum of 2 years relevant teaching experience for college-level courses (could be as a teaching assistant)
*Demonstrated experience as an instructional designer or course developer
*Proven track record of delivering projects on time and within budget
*Demonstrated knowledge of best practices, current research, and innovations in digital teaching and learning in higher education
*Strong project management, time management, and communication skills are essential, as well as the ability to work both independently and with a team
*The desire to learn new (technical) skills
*Proficiency with Python, Javascript, XML, CSS, and LaTeX
*Experience creating plots and 3D interactive images in Mathematica, MATLAB, or python preferred
* Ties to Africa or experience on the continent are preferred (given the African context of content and the local production of courses)
*Experience using Adobe tools and video editing software (Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere) is a plus
*This is for a one-year appointment conditional on performance, with the possibility to renew (subject to funding and satisfactory performance)
