Job description

Position Description:

The Advanced Emissions Calibration Engineer is responsible for developing and demonstrating system-level capabilities to achieve future emissions targets (SULEV20, SULEV15, and SULEV10) for gasoline-powered Internal Combustion Engines (ICE), Hybrid (HEV), and Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) applications. This role bridges the gap between virtual simulation and physical validation, leading the development of calibration strategies that balance stringent regulatory compliance with core vehicle attributes like fuel economy and drivability. The ideal candidate combines high-level analytical strategy with a "hands-on" approach to commissioning and debugging complex prototype propulsion systems.

Skills Required:

Chemical Engineering - Ability to understand and communicate with team regarding exhaust gas chemical reactions
Quality Control - Statistical methods for data analysis
Electrical Engineering - Ability to understand electrical systems and needs for various engine control devices. Understanding of power distribution dn architecture, including 48v system concepts
System Integration - Higer level understanding of vehicle control system and electrical systems and ability to consider balances and tradeoffs for system level attributes and balancing the needs to for the entire vehicle in the context of emissions control
Project Management - Manage multiyear projects for vehicle system design and testing including managing parts procurement, test resource management and timing, and regular status reporting to management
Mechanical Engineering - Understanding of how vehicle engine and powertrains function, from conventional ICE to various hybrid configurations.

Skills Preferred:

Performance Testing - Conduct vehicle level, engine only, and powertrain testing to investigate, develop, and demonstrate emissions compliance with varied aftertreatment systems
Regulatory Affairs - Understanding of current emissions regulations, and familiarity with regulations, and ability to understand and adapt to emerging regulations
powertrain - Understanding of curren powertrain offerings and various hybrid configurations from MHT, to PowerSplit to full EREV. Ability to adapt control strategy and calibration to different operating conditions of each powertrain configuration.
Quality Control
Analytical Chemistry - Understanding of chemical reactions in relation to aftertreatment echaust gas, NOx, HCs, CO, Sulfur, O2, etc.
Leadership - Self-motivated, able to develop a project from concept phase through development through to report out and conclusion phase.
Data Modeling - Experience with data analysis techniques and ability to model trends from large data sets. Use or create models to predict vehicle and emissions attribute performance during experiment definition phases
Environmental Compliance - Understanding of current and proposed future emissions regulations
Project Planning - Manage multiyear projects for vehicle system design and testing including managing parts procurement, test resource management and timing, and regular status reporting to management
