What is a Mathnasium Tutor job?

A Mathnasium Tutor is an instructor who helps students improve their math skills using the Mathnasium Method, a structured approach to teaching mathematics. Tutors work with students of various ages and skill levels, providing personalized instruction in a supportive environment. They guide students through problem-solving, explain concepts clearly, and ensure mastery of foundational and advanced math topics. The role requires strong math proficiency, patience, and the ability to engage students effectively.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Mathnasium Tutor position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Mathnasium Tutor, you need a strong grasp of math concepts ranging from elementary to high school levels, along with some previous tutoring or teaching experience. Tutors commonly use Mathnasium’s proprietary teaching materials, diagnostic assessment tools, and student progress tracking systems. Outstanding communication, patience, and the ability to motivate students are essential soft skills that set successful tutors apart. These skills ensure students receive clear explanations, individual support, and the encouragement needed to build both their math skills and confidence.

What does a typical shift look like for a Mathnasium Tutor, and how are students assigned?

Students are assigned based on their individual learning plans, and you’ll rotate among them to provide personalized instruction, answer questions, and help them practice skills using Mathnasium’s unique methods and resources. You’ll coordinate with other tutors and the Center Director to track student progress and adapt instruction as needed. This dynamic structure ensures that each session remains engaging, and you get the opportunity to build relationships with different learners throughout the week.

Job description

Benefits:
  • Flexible schedule
  • Training & development

Mathnasium of New Tampa is a growing organization and are looking for instructors to join our team. We teach in a study hall-type environment with students of all ages in the K-12 grade range. We are looking for future instructors who have solid math skills AND strong communication skills. We help our students solve their own problems, not just tell them what to do.
We serve our students year-round, so this is an opportunity for regular part-time work. There is no need to schedule your own students as they will come during our operating hours. And unlike a school, we don't require you to have a teaching certificate. We will train you in our methodology.
To apply, please give us your resume, name of last completed math class, and days and times you are available to work. We are looking for people who can work at least two weekdays per week (Monday-Thursday) from 3:00-7:00. Pay begins at $14/hr with opportunities for advancement upon completion of training. (813) 644-7282
About Mathnasium of New Tampa
We are a group of instructors at Mathnasium of New Tampa who are making a real difference in students' lives. Unlike other learning centers and tutoring services, our entire teaching philosophy revolves around teaching math in a way that makes sense to students. We find where a student is at in terms of their math abilities, and build them up from there.
Because of our part time and flexible hours, this job is perfect for students. We prefer instructors that are currently taking higher level math classes or have completed at least one in the past year.

Thus, each franchisee and each franchisee center is unique and the franchisee is alone responsible for all employment matters in their center. If you are hired to work at a center, the franchisee will be your employer, not Mathnasium.
