General Statement
Montana State University seeks qualified individuals to provide non-tenurable level instruction and/or related functions. Instructors are needed to teach classes depending upon need and available funding.
Applications are accepted on a continual basis (unless otherwise indicated) and will be maintained in pool for two years. After two years, candidates will be notified to re-submit materials for continued consideration.
The department or program search committees or hiring authority will review and evaluate the submitted application materials. Applicants will be notified if their application is being retained in the non-tenure track faculty hiring pool.
Appointments are on a part-time basis and vary in duration, usually a semester or an academic year, depending on the specific needs of the department/program. Salary is dependent on number of courses taught and duration.
Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include:
  • Teaching on-campus courses.
  • Advising, evaluating and assisting students and/or
  • Curriculum and/or course development.

Required Qualifications - Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  1. Master's Degree in mathematics, mathematics teaching, statistics or closely related field.
  2. Two years teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications - Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  1. Two years teaching experience at the college or university level.

  • Demonstrate the ability to relate to and establish rapport with a college student population.
  • Exercise good judgment and self-motivation.
  • Possess strong interest in student success.
  • Be committed to quality teaching.

The Department of Mathematical Sciences is recognized as a leading department of Statistics, Mathematics, and Mathematics Education. Bachelors, masters, and doctoral graduates in all of these areas are following successful careers in industry, government, and academia. Located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, 80 miles north of Yellowstone National Park, we offer outstanding educational opportunities in an area of exquisitely beautiful scenery and outdoor recreation. Our department has a multifaceted role on campus and in Montana. We have the largest instructional component on campus, delivering about 10% of the total student credit hours. We offer a B.S. in Mathematics with options in mathematics, applied mathematics, mathematics teaching, and statistics; an M.S. in Mathematics with options in Mathematics and Mathematics Education; an M.S. in Data Science; an M.S. in Statistics; a Ph.D. in Mathematics with emphases in Mathematics and Mathematics Education; and a Ph.D. in Statistics with emphases in Statistics and Statistics Education.
