Job description

Job Title: Part Time AVID Tutor-6-12
Wage/Hour Status: $15.00 per hour-limited to 14.5 hours per week. Flexible scheduling between 8:30 am - 4:30 pm.
Reports to: AVID Department Pay Grade: N/A
Dept. /School: Secondary Campus Days: Monday - Friday
Supervises: N/A
Primary Purpose: To support students in all academic coursework through AVID methodologies in order to prepare them for college or career success upon high school graduation.
Qualifications: College student preferred; Must have a strong math and English background, evidenced by college transcript; Must have own transportation. Tutors must attend mandatory training classes under the supervision of AVID campus and district personnel.
Education/Certification:
  • High School Graduate or High School Senior
Special Knowledge Skills:
  • Strong math and writing skills recommended
  • Patience and persistence, especially with technology
Experience: College experience preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Work with K12 students and teachers in a face to face classroom environment.
  • Determine from student notes and discussions, the concepts that need to be taught or retaught
  • Evaluate student binders, including calendars, class and textbook notes, etc
  • Become familiar with the materials in the AVID Curriculum Libraries
  • Become familiar with the textbooks and materials used by AVID students
  • Conduct tutorial sessions in all core areas, especially math, therefore a strong math background is recommended
  • Conduct mini-lessons in the process of writing in all subject areas, study skills, and other aspects of college preparation
  • Set an example of personal excellence and high expectations for students to follow
  • Work with students in any phase of the writing process, such as brainstorming, clustering, revision, and editing
  • Communicate frequently and honestly with the AVID department and campus teachers regarding student progress and areas of concern
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Follow safety and professional standards set by ECISD
