Job purpose:
In keeping a tradition of excellence, a teacher in the Rankin County School District is expected to help students learn required subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible men and women. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Duties and responsibilities:
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes at the assigned school and at times designated by Principal
  • Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students
  • Lessons are aligned to standards and represent a coherent sequence of learning
  • Lessons have high levels of learning for all students
  • Assist students in taking responsibility for learning and monitors student learning
  • Provide multiple ways for students to make meaning of content
  • Manage a learning-focused classroom community; Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students
  • Manage classroom space, time, and resources effectively for student learning
  • Create and maintain a classroom of respect for all students

  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as assigned
  • Identify and report the possibility of learning disabilities of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required
  • Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
  • Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation

Qualifications:

  • Certification: Hold an appropriate Mississippi Teaching Credential or valid emergency
    certification issued by the state of Mississippi Educational Board
