About Our School
First State Military Academy is a cadet-led program that emphasizes character, citizenship, and leadership development. We are a conservative school with traditional values, and we believe in raising the capability of our cadets and commit to working as one. Furthermore, we believe people come first and dedicate ourselves to earning respect by acting responsibly. We promote excellence and push boundaries to ensure the success of our students.
The successful candidate will have excellent people skills, be self-motivated, and have a passion for education and improving the education of all cadets. First State Military Academy utilizes Project-Based Learning and cadet-led projects to prepare all of our cadets for success in life, college, and the careers of tomorrow.
Essential Functions
To perform this job successfully, the incumbent must demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:
  • Employs a variety of teaching methods to offer dynamic, engaging, and student-centered instruction. Implementation of these methods may require the adaptation or development of materials.
  • Assess student competency levels, progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or develop individual learning plans.
  • Prepares written materials to document student progress, meet mandated requirements, and provide feedback to students.
  • Communicate with parents and/or legal guardians regarding their children's educational progress/expectations, via periodic written and verbal progress reports.
  • Maintains attendance and other records, and performs related clerical duties.
  • Enforces safe behavior at all times.
  • Monitors and manages student behavior to provide a safe and optional learning environment and teaches students appropriate behavioral strategies.
  • Complies with Federal, State, Local, and Academy Regulations, Policies, and Procedures.
  • Reports incidents (e.g, fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) to maintain the personal safety of students.
  • Maintains discipline and authority over students according to the First State Military Academy Discipline Policy Manual.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly environment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the school.

Qualifications
  • Must hold o a State of Delaware Certification in the subject area
  • Valid State of Delaware Teaching License, or eligibility to obtain one

Additional Requirements
  • Must be able to attend required departmental meetings
  • Must be a contributing member of departmental initiatives, including events and course/curriculum development
  • Must maintain active professional engagement and research, which is required to advise/mentor students
  • Must oversee the personal safety of students, to provide a positive learning environment, and adhere to DE State Code and school policies
  • Must share the school's commitment to diversity and inclusion
