Job description

Job Summary:
Los Alamos National Laboratory is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. They are seeking a High Performance Computing Software Engineer to develop and optimize algorithms for multi-physics codes on high-performance computing platforms, while also conducting research and development in applied physics and engineering models.
Responsibilities:
• Develop and optimize cutting-edge algorithms for massively parallel multi-physics codes on heterogeneous high-performance computing platforms.
• Conduct research and development of applied physics and engineering models.
• Implement methods into production codes using excellent software development practices.
• Test and validate methods, and educate and support users as they adopt these methods.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Demonstrated professional knowledge in software modernization and performance optimization.
• Demonstrated experience with massively parallel numerical development and simulation, and experience deploying numerical algorithms to heterogeneous computing architectures.
• Recognized proficiency with modern C++.
• Experience in Fortran and C languages and the development of multi-physics scientific codes, including software engineering practices and user support.
• Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a team environment with a willingness to learn new skills and be flexible in work assignments.
• Exhibiting professional conduct in interactions with co-workers and supervisors.
• Experience mentoring students, postdocs and/or more junior staff.
• Bachelor's degree in a STEM field from an accredited college and university and 4 years of related experience, or equivalent experience directly related to the occupation.
Preferred:
• Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in applied mathematics, physics, engineering or related field.
• DOE Q Clearance
• Experience in C++ template metaprogramming and compile time programming techniques along with C++ standards knowledge.
• Experience with LANL's mission and research environment including impact on programmatic deliverables for the nuclear weapons program.
