Job description

Job Title: Order Entry ClerkJob Description

The Order Entry Clerk supports steel joist manufacturing by accurately processing engineer-approved orders, building complete shop packages, and maintaining precise documentation. This role focuses on order processing, data entry, and documentation accuracy rather than design or engineering. The position offers on-the-job training with internal software and provides clear advancement opportunities into more technical roles for individuals who perform well and show a strong willingness to learn.

Responsibilities
  • Review engineer-provided design information for steel joist manufacturing and ensure all required details are complete before entry.
  • Enter bills of materials, order data, and dimensions into internal software systems with a high level of accuracy.
  • Build complete shop packages for release to production, including all supporting documentation and details.
  • Process approved design changes by updating order documentation and internal records in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Check final manufacturing packages for completeness and accuracy prior to release to production.
  • Prepare and review special manufacturing details as needed to support unique or non-standard orders.
  • Coordinate with engineering and production teams to ensure smooth order flow and timely processing of shop packages.
  • Process approximately 2–3 moderately complex orders per week, maintaining consistency and accuracy across all orders.
  • Follow established procedures and workflows for order entry, order processing, and order fulfillment.
  • Use Microsoft Excel and other basic office tools to perform data entry and maintain organized records.
Essential Skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Solid math skills, including basic arithmetic and working with fractions.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including data entry.
  • Working knowledge of Windows operating systems.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word at a basic, document-handling level.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Excel at a data entry level.
  • Ability to perform accurate data entry, including inputting dimensions into software.
  • Ability to complete basic keyboarding and 10-key assessments prior to hire.
  • Ability to successfully complete math assessments, including fractional mathematics, prior to hire.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Office or administrative experience is preferred but not required.
  • Exposure to construction or manufacturing environments is preferred.
  • Experience with order entry, order processing, or order fulfillment is beneficial.
  • Experience in construction or manufacturing-related clerical roles is a plus.
  • Interest in growing into Detailer roles or other technical and estimating-related positions.
  • Willingness to learn internal software systems and processes.
  • Nice to have: prior construction experience.
Work Environment

This is an on-site, office-based position with a schedule of Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The role involves working primarily at a computer, using internal software systems and standard office applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel. The environment supports collaboration with engineering and production teams to ensure smooth order flow. The position offers a structured setting with clear procedures and provides opportunities for professional growth into more technical roles, including potential AutoCAD training and advancement into detailing or estimating-related positions.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $17.00/hr.
