Job description

Job Description

At Fugro, we unlock insights from Geo-data to help our clients design, build and operate their assets safely and sustainably. We are looking for a Senior Innovation Engineer with deep expertise in mathematics, geospatial information systems (GIS) and airborne lidar to join our regional Innovation team.

The Senior Innovation Engineer is responsible for geospatial and lidar post-processing, working primarily on our RAMMS airborne lidar bathymetry platform. You will design and build high-quality software and algorithms, lead modernisation of our geospatial tooling, and help shape how we turn complex remote-sensing data into trusted client deliverables. If you enjoy combining rigorous mathematics with hands-on software engineering on problems that few people in the world get to work on, we'd like to hear from you.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead by example and place Quality, Health & Safety, Security, and the protection of the Environment as core values while never intentionally placing employees, our processes, customers, or the communities in which we live and work at risk.
  • Develop and maintain post-processing software and algorithms for multibeam, airborne lidar bathymetry (ALB) and topographic lidar data across the full product lifecycle.
  • Sit primarily on the RAMMS team, leading development, maintenance and support of the airborne lidar bathymetry processing chain - with particular ownership of wave modelling and its integration into the pipeline.
  • Develop ESRI based GIS functiionality.
  • raster/vector processing and delivery workflows.
  • From 2027, contribute geospatial analysis and software support for AUV mission planning, helping optimise autonomous survey design and coverage.
  • Provide architectural and conceptual input across multiple programs, and 3rd-level support for existing geospatial and lidar solutions.
  • Document and demonstrate solutions, and help drive technical alignment, knowledge sharing and best practice across the region.
  • Mentor and coach less experienced engineers, contributing to their technical development.

Job Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without restrictions.
  • Possess a bachelor's degree in Computer Science with focus on Mathematics, Geomatics, Geoscience or a related field. Masters preferred.
  • Have 5 years or more experience developing post-processing software for multibeam, ALB and/or lidar data.
  • Solid mathematical foundation - numerical methods, geometry, and statistics/error analysis - applied to geospatial or remote-sensing problems.
  • Strong C# and C++ development skills at a senior level, including design of performant numerical and data-processing software.
  • Strong GIS expertise: spatial data structures, coordinate reference systems, projections, and raster/vector processing.

Nice to have

  • Experience with wave or ocean-surface modelling (spectral / hydrodynamic methods, surface reconstruction).
  • Exposure to autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) survey planning or hydrographic survey design.
  • Experience working across multidisciplinary, multi-region engineering teams.
