Job description
Shenandoah University’s College of Arts and Sciences is accepting applications for an Assistant Professor of Mathematical Sciences. This is a full-time, benefited position located on our main campus in Winchester, Virginia.
Shenandoah University, a private, comprehensive university located 70 miles northwest of Washington, D.C., is committed to increasing the diversity of its community and curriculum. Faculty members are expected to be active scholars in their fields and to participate in service to the university and the broader community. The Department of Mathematical Sciences has a student-centered focus that includes advising and mentoring and fosters the academic success of an increasingly diverse student population. An on-campus, in-person presence is expected.
The responsibilities of the position involve teaching, scholarship, and service. The mathematical research area is open, with a preference for applied mathematics and research projects that will contribute to undergraduate research projects. The primary teaching responsibilities are to teach upper-level computational and proof-based courses that contribute to the mathematics and applied mathematics programs, and service courses, according to the needs of the department. The department seeks a collaborative faculty member who will be part of a growing department with a strong focus in active, student-centered teaching. The faculty member will develop relationships with students and faculty across disciplines to contribute to the continued academic and scholarly development of the department.
Required Skills
A PhD in mathematics or a related field by the date of appointment; demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching; and evidence of scholarly and professional activities.
A successful candidate will play an active role in shaping undergraduate programs in the mathematical sciences.
Required Experience
How to Apply:
Complete application submissions will include a letter of intent, curriculum vitae, and contact information for three professional references. The review of applications will begin immediately and continue until a qualified candidate is selected.
*Note: A pre-employment background check will be required, and a satisfactory driving record may be required as a condition of hire.
