Job Description
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
Arkansas State University-Beebe, a comprehensive two-year community & technical college and part of the Arkansas State University System, is seeking a Director of the Medical Laboratory Technician Program.
The College is focused on teaching and learning, and emphasizes student success at all levels and is interested in candidates who value those same attributes. Candidates must appreciate and understand the mission and purpose of an open-access, community and technical college.
As a collaborative, energetic leader, the successful candidate will demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills; a strong commitment to student success; comfortable with change, innovation, and technology; and the use of data for decision-making.
The Director will report directly to the Dean of Math and Science and have a voice in the MLT program decisions. The MLT Director is responsible for coordinating the delivery of instruction, for ensuring the quality of instruction, budget management, and for the overall leadership, organization, administration, supervision, and effectiveness of the program. The director is responsible for operating the MLT program in accordance with NAACLS Standards and maintaining program accreditation. The Director will oversee continuous quality improvement activities, supervise program faculty and staff, maintain regular communication with students, faculty, clinical affiliates, administration, and program personnel, and ensure the quality and effectiveness of both didactic and clinical education experiences. The Director is a faculty member who will teach the equivalent of 15 credit hours per semester.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Oversee all aspects of the MLT program; maintain compliance with all NAACLS accreditation standards; coordinate accreditation activities, reports, and self-studies; and ensure the overall effectiveness of the program.
  2. Participate in the preparation, development, and management of the program budget, including identifying resources to meet program needs.
  3. Oversee the MLT course schedule in collaboration with the Director of Allied Health to promote student engagement, persistence, and retention.
  4. Periodically evaluate the course schedule, curriculum, student learning outcomes, program outcomes, and all aspects of the MLT program through a continuous quality improvement process. Use assessment data, graduate outcomes, employer feedback, advisory committee recommendations, certification examination performance, retention, placement, and graduation rates to improve program effectiveness and student success.
  5. Direct, supervise, mentor, and evaluate program faculty, adjunct faculty, laboratory personnel, and other program staff as applicable to ensure effective delivery of instruction and program operations.
  6. Maintain and seek new partnerships, programs, and grant funding for training opportunities. Develop contracts, memorandums of understanding (MOUs), and agreements between partners.
  7. Aid in the development of short and long term MLT development plans, as well as gathering of information and preparation of studies, reports, and recommendations to achieve goals.
  8. Maintain professional competence through continuing education, participation in professional organizations, conferences, workshops, and by maintaining required credentials and certification.
  9. Deliver effective instruction by assuming primary responsibility for curriculum planning, development, implementation, evaluation, assessment, and revision in accordance with NAACLS Standards and College policies. Teach assigned courses using effective instructional methodologies; provide academic advising; develop and assess student learning outcomes; and participate in professional development and institutional service.
  10. Coordinate, evaluate, and maintain all clinical education experiences; establish and maintain effective relationships with clinical affiliates; evaluate clinical sites and instructors; and ensure students receive appropriate supervision and educational experiences during clinical rotations.
  11. Promote a positive, collaborative work environment by demonstrating professionalism, sound judgment, effective interpersonal skills, teamwork, and exceptional customer service.
  12. Complete all required training and professional development sessions at ASUB and to keep ASCP-BOC or ASCPi-BOC generalist certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist.
  13. Participate in student recruitment, advising, community outreach, program promotion, marketing initiatives, and institutional service. Collaborate with the Dean and other College personnel to establish and achieve recruitment and retention goals.
  14. Handle sensitive and extensive confidential information.
  15. Serve as liaison to the MLT Advisory Committee; organize and conduct a minimum of two advisory committee meetings each academic year; document recommendations; and incorporate appropriate recommendations into continuous program improvement.
  16. Maintain effective communication and collaborative relationships with clinical affiliates, students, faculty, administration, advisory committee members, and other program personnel to support quality clinical education and NAACLS compliance. Periodic clinical site visits are encouraged.
  17. Monitor student progression, retention, graduation, certification examination performance, graduate placement, and employer satisfaction, and use these outcomes to support continuous quality improvement and accreditation compliance.
  18. Working locations can include any of the campuses and working hours may include evenings or weekends depending on deadline requirements and special events.
  19. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a closely related field.
  • Current ASCP-BOC or ASCPi-BOC generalist certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS).
  • Minimum of two (2) years of teaching or other relevant educational experience in medical laboratory science including clinical instruction and supervision.
  • Meet all current NAACLS qualifications for serving as Program Director of a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) Program.
  • Thirty-six (36) hours of documented continuing professional development within the previous three (3) years, preferred.
