Description:

The Math Interventionist is responsible for planning and coordinating the elementary and/or middle school math program.

Requirements:

Duties of this position include but are not limited to:

  1. Develop, administer and/or facilitate assessments to determine student math levels.
  2. Create instructional math plans to match student ability and learning styles.
  3. Guide children through math activities to help them overcome obstacles.
  4. Consult with parents and teachers to recommend at-home strategies to improve math skills.
  5. Assist Classroom Teachers in planning math programs and instruction.
  6. Assist all teachers with teaching/learning strategies that promote math comprehension.
  7. Model math instruction in elementary and middle school classrooms.
  8. Maintain current and efficient records including the preparation of reports and presentations.
  9. Assist in the creation and implementation of after school math tutoring programs.
  10. Coordinate the Academy mathematics and primary math program both horizontally and vertically.
  11. Assist Classroom Teachers in planning the mathematics program and elementary and/or middle school programs.
  12. Coordinate the developmental aspects of the elementary and/or middle school programs.
  13. Collaboratively select and coordinate (with the approval of the Principal) all math materials used in the classrooms.
  14. Assist in assuring continuity between regular programs and other special areas.
  15. Assist teachers with instructional interventions.
  16. Implement in the Academy the curriculum outcomes associated with mathematics.
  17. Maintain current and efficient records including the preparation of reports.
  18. Submit appropriate data and reports.
  19. Monitor student progress towards achieving instructional objectives and goals.
  20. Communicate effectively within the educational community and with parents on a regular basis.
  21. Report incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to the Code and administrative and/or Academy policies.
  22. Meet professional responsibilities.
  23. Maintain and upgrade professional skills.
  24. Promote and maintain positive Academy-staff and pupil-teacher-parent relationships.
  25. Adhere to the teacher code of conduct.
  26. Support and implement the discipline philosophy of the Academy, as well as disciplinary procedures designed for individual students.
  27. Maintain confidentiality regarding students.
  28. Attend and participate in all required in-service training sessions and become familiar with the inclusion philosophy and procedures as outlined in AIMS’ policy.
  29. Ensure adherence to safety procedures.
  30. Other related duties as assigned by the Principal.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required; master’s degree preferred.
  2. Except as otherwise provided by law, the Academy shall use certificated teachers according to state board rule.
  3. Two years of teaching experience.
  4. Experience with elementary/middle school programs dependent on area of assignment.
  5. Experience with integrated curriculum.
  6. Satisfactory criminal background check and unprofessional conduct check as required by School Safety Legislation.
