Description:

Under the general direction of the Water Lead Worker and Water Field Supervisor, this position walks a route to read water meters throughout the City. You will be asked to provide accurate readings and ensure meter lids are secure and safe. This position may have interactions with home owners or the public.

Duties:

  • Walks a pre-determined route within the City, and will read, clean, and maintain water meters.
  • Reports damaged or broken water meters to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Accurately reads and records results of readings on the proper form.
  • May assist water service crews with minor meter pit repairs.

Performs other duties as assigned by department supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Must possess a valid Utah Driver's License.
  • Must be tactful in dealing with the public.
  • Must be able to operate electronic devices.
  • Must maintain skills and knowledge in the proper and safe techniques for performing job functions.
  • Must have the ability to maintain accurate records and be able to perform standard mathematical computations quickly and accurately.

Additional Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of water meter repair helpful.
  • Previous meter reading experience.

Physical Demands:

Must be physically fit enough to continuously walk long distances, stoop, bend, kneel, and stretch frequently. Must be able to perform light lifting up to several hundred times daily, and occasional moderate lifting of up to 40 pounds.
