Calgary's science centre is a pioneer in scienceentertainment and programming, with roots dating back to 1967. Home to one ofWestern Canada's largest dome theatre, the Digital Immersion Gallery, VRexperiences, and innovative spaces like Steven's Lab, where interactiveexperiments unfold before your eyes. From the robot-dog Flint to Canada's firstrobot-coa5ter, R05iE, and a 15-acre park surrounding the science of thedeveloping brain, Spark is a hub for creative encounters.
 Position OverviewÂ
TELUS Spark is seeking a relationship-oriented Specialist,Community Partnerships and Group Volunteers on a 1-year project based contract to lead theexpansion of community partnerships and volunteer engagement across Spark.
Funded through the Government of Alberta's CommunityInitiatives Program, the Project aims to strengthen organizational capacity,cultivate meaningful community relationships, and create innovativeopportunities for individuals, groups, and organizations to engage with Spark'smission.
Working across multiple departments, this position willexpand community-based engagement opportunities, develop and implementstrategic volunteer initiatives, cultivate corporate and board volunteerexperiences, and support volunteer participation in major organizationalprojects and events. This role is focused on growth, partnerships, and capacitybuilding, complementing the work of Spark's Volunteer Coordinator, who leadsthe day-to-day coordination of the volunteer program. This role reports directlyinto the Senior Director, People and Culture with a dotted reporting line tothe Senior Director, Advancement & External Relations.Â
Contract term: October 1, 2026 - October 1, 2027.
Key Responsibilities
Community Partnerships & Engagement
 Build and maintain relationships with communityorganizations, non-profits, educational institutions, cultural groups, andother partners aligned with Spark's mission.
 Identify collaborative opportunities that increase communityparticipation, accessibility, and engagement.
 Support the community access program and initiatives inpartnership with the Advancement team.
 Collaborate with the Indigenous Science team to supportrelationship-building initiatives and culturally meaningful communityengagement opportunities.
 Act as a connector between Spark and community partners tofoster long-term, mutually beneficial relationships.
 Group Volunteer Engagement & Corporate Partnerships
 Develop and coordinate meaningful group volunteeropportunities that support Sparks programs, events, and community initiatives.
 Partner with Advancement & External Relations to enhancedonor stewardship and corporate engagement through volunteer experiences.
 Build relationships with corporate partners interested inemployee volunteer opportunities.
 Support the development of volunteer experiences thatstrengthen organizational visibility, community impact, and partner engagement.
 Volunteer Strategy & Program Expansion
 Support the implementation and ongoing evolution of Spark'sorganization-wide volunteer engagement strategy alongside the Coordinator, Volunteer Program.
 Identify and develop new volunteer pathways that align withSparks priorities and community needs.
 Expand opportunities for specialized volunteers whocontribute expertise, mentorship, science engagement, education programmingsupport, and community outreach.
 Assess volunteer engagement trends and recommendopportunities to strengthen volunteer participation and impact across theorganization.
 Develop frameworks, resources, and recommendations thatsupport sustainable long-term volunteer growth.
 Develop a training framework and program for volunteers aspart of Spark's professional development program for volunteers.
 Board Volunteer Engagement
Support opportunities for meaningful board member volunteerparticipation and engagement.
Collaborate with Spark's leaders to identify strategicvolunteer initiatives that strengthen governance, community connection, andorganizational impact.Â
Assist in coordinating volunteer opportunities that alignwith Spark's board engagement objectives.
Other duties as assigned.
 Qualifications & Knowledge
3-5 years of experience in community engagement, partnershipdevelopment, volunteer program development, stakeholder relations, or nonprofitprogram coordination.
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effectiverelationships with diverse stakeholders. Experience working with community organizations, orcharitable/nonprofit organizations advantageous.Â
Experience working with Indigenous communities an asset.
Knowledge of community partnership development andstakeholder engagement practices advantageous.Â
Strong project management, planning, and organizationalskills.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and facilitationskills.
 Ability to work collaboratively across departments and withexternal partners.
 Strong initiative, creativity, and problem-solvingabilities.
 A proven track record of adding value to an organization'sculture and initiatives.
 Ability to model high performance, flexibility and kindnessin a rapidly changing growth environment.
 Willingness to learn and adapt to change.
Ability to work evenings and weekends as required, particularly during volunteer orientation weekends and major event weekends such as Beakerhead.
